Okay meals but slow service - won't return.
Headed here as a change from my hotel to eat somewhere different, based on other feedback.
It's easy to find - the hotel has a large illuminated sign so wasn't a difficult stroll. I was seated quickly and ordered a Adana Kebab with side salad and beer (the drink came quickly) and also a passing waiter offered a small titbit (tapas on toast) whilst I waited.
When the kebab arrived it only had a small garnish on the plate and when I enquired if this was their side salad, it seemed they'd forgotten about it so hurriedly located it and brought it to the table.
The meal was fine for what I ordered: flame-grilled lamb and herbs with a mint rahita (could have done with some chilli sauce) and went okay with the salad, but for nearly 20 euros it felt overpriced.
Although the place didn't seem to be too full the staff still seemed to be scurrying around, busily. At some point a passing waitress asked if I wanted a dessert menu and vanished to get one... then 15 mins later spotted me and realised she'd forgotten all about me. However, I ordered some breads and dip whilst I finished my second beer.
This oversight seemed to be a repeatable model: after sitting there with an empty glass and no offers of refills, I asked a waiter to fetch me the bill. After seeing nothing for the next 15 mins, I asked a waitress instead who produced it fairly quickly.
I would have stayed for more beers and maybe returned on another day, but felt overall the service was slow and negligent - nobody really cared if customers wanted anything more, and with several waiting staff being so forgetful I think I'll forget about returning. A pity, since those burgers...
Read morePerfect place if you don’t want to talk to anyone at the table during dinner. The music was ridiculously loud and getting louder the later it got. The fact that they considered right next to the extra loudspeaker a great place to put a table should tell it all. The food was decent, looked nice but was heavily overpriced especially for the rather small portion size. Entrees with meat or fish start at 20 Euro, most of the dishes come without any garnish or a side. That is okay, if I don’t pay 21 Euro for 3 chicken satay sticks. Most smaller dishes such as a salad start at 15 Euros. While you can find the menu on the website, they conveniently leave out the prices- if they hadn’t we would’ve chosen a restaurant where prices match quality and size, and the person opposite me can at least understand me. The menu is ‘sprinkled’ with Caribbean inspirations but hardly what I would consider a Caribbean menu. The interior is nicely decorated I guess, fits the theme. If you’ve always wished of having an overpriced dinner right on the club’s dance floor come here, otherwise skip it- there are tons of other places in Amsterdam that serve food just as good or better, more reasonably priced and don’t leave your ears ringing after...
Read moreWe had a Christmas dinner at the Mondi Restaurant New-West at the Corendon Amsterdam New-West Hotel during their Caribbean Night with a 4 course menu with a Caribbean twist, music and entertainment. It was very festive and jolly. Though in the beginning guests and the mood was a bit stiff, but later the night when the entertainers really worked the audience to loosen up and just be in a party mood, it turned into a fun bash! There was live music, dancing, a DJ, kahoot games to win some prizes and even a photobooth by Glimbooth to make holiday pictures. It was a fun night, with good food and kind staff especially the waiter of Dutch origin who mostly served our table and assisted without any hesitancy to cater to our food needs, that we had to give him a tip as gratitude.
A nice touch was also that Mondi assisted in the email request that I sent afterwards concerning a photo we taken in the photobooth by Glimbooth, that we didn't receive. They referred to Glimbooth with their contact info, since Mondi has no access to...
