I found information about Cactus Blue Bonaire's food truck online and decided to try their lionfish burger. We weren't lucky enough to try the fish, it was out of stock, so we tried the beef burger and the beef wrap, which I shared with my husband to try both. And I can say wow! It did not disappoint us, very delicious, juicy and tasty!
MMM. After finishing my portions, I felt like they ended very quickly, like a good movie when it ends but you feel like you haven't had enough yet and want it to continue. And the warm personality of host Harry and chef Tham will win you over. This is what I look for when I go out to eat, whether it's a high-end restaurant or a food truck. I am generally quite selective as a customer since I cook well myself. I will judge others' cooking that has to match my level or be higher. And Tham was definitely a gem to find. It deserves all five stars.
So far I've had no luck finding a good food truck in the DC area where I'm from, I start with the smell of the food coming from the food truck, if it's not a fresh and appetizing smell I won't even try it. And the smell I got from Tham cooking was just enticing, I couldn't wait for my order to be ready, the smells were just delicious.
We went earlier next day for the lionfish and again weren't disappointed. It surely feprnds on the taste you have, but I liked the fish snd Tham made it into sandwich to the best possible. Yumm. You have to have the experience of lionfish burger while here! Whenever I'm back, I'm definitely going to eat lionfish again, and at this food truck. And it being at the shore of ocean gives a view and...
Read moreHad the Dutchie Burger and the Lion Fish Burger. Both were good with the Dutchie better than the pricey Lion Fish. It was cool that I was able to see a Lion Fish while diving, see one being caught, and then eat one the following day. I can't say that it was the best fish burger I had ever eaten but it was good. A little pricey and small for what you get, but they do a good job loading it up with extra toppings to give it some substance. At least I can say I tried it, but I think it's more of a tourist gimmick. They got me, and I'm ok with that. It does come with a good story too, and you will have time to listen since it takes a little time for it to be made. At least you know it is being made fresh. Cute colourful little food trailer at the side of the road, so pay attention so you don't miss it. They have set up near a tree shaded area with some impromptu seating too. They are close to the end of the runway, so planes will also fly...
Read moreMaybe the burgers and wraps are excellent as the reviews indicate, but my wife and I tried the lionfish burger (at “market price,” which was $26 each for a basic fish sandwich with not very much actual fish on it – and that’s $26 for the sandwich – no chip, nothing else) and that was likely our mistake. The lionfish burger sandwich is extremely expensive – even for the already high food prices on the island, and it was probably a poor choice given the other options at the food truck that look wonderful. We like to support efforts to creatively address issues in the ecosystems of places we visit, and this seemed like a good way to create a market for the removal of an invasive species. So on that front, we applaud the idea, but the sandwich wasn't worth the expense imo. I am sure the other reviews are correct and many of the other items are well worth...
