Asian Delights — Restaurant in Heemstede

We found Asian Delights on Thuisbezorgd while looking for an Asian restaurant to show our family the great takeaways that are in our area. Based on the reviews our expectations were high, so we were very excited to see what Asian Delights had to offer. We ordered 2 large spring rolls and kroepoek for starters, and for the main course we ordered nasi goreng with vegetables, gado gado and chicken pieces with pineapple and sweet and sour sauce.

The kroepoek tasted delicious, but the spring rolls were both enormous (making it hard to share between multiple people) and extremely greasy. You'd expect takeaway spring rolls to be slightly soggy but these were dripping with oil and condensation, to the point that they pretty much slid down your throats. Also the portions of sauce that came with the spring rolls were comically small - barely a tablespoon of sauce for each of the jumbo spring rolls.

The gado gado was very tasty, the amount of peanut in the sauce was perfect and there was just a hint of spice which added some very welcome bite; mixed with a side of vegetarian nasi this was by far the best part of the meal. The other two dishes, however, left a trail of grease everywhere they went. I would also be wary of any ham at this restaurant, as the ham pieces in our nasi side gave one of us a bit of a "funny tummy".

Unforunately we were quite disappointed overall in this restaurant - even today we can feel the grease from this food oozing through our pores and the quality of food was definitely not worth the price. We thought the menu was quite unclear, and a little bit more detail on what was in each of the dishes would have been appreciated. The saving grace was the portion sizes; even though we weren't thrilled with the quality of this food the portions were extremely generous. We were also pleasantly surprised with how quickly...

We’ve been loyal customers of Asian Delight in Heemstede for many years, ordering regularly — not because the food is amazing, but out of solidarity, as we know the family personally.

Today was the last straw.

We placed our order well in advance (around 4:30 PM) and requested delivery at 6:15 PM, specifically because we have a young child. By 6:30 PM, there was still no delivery. I called to check, only to be spoken to rudely by the owner’s son, who dismissively told me, “It’s always busy on Sundays,” and then hung up on me.

I called again and spoke to one of the owners, who also seemed too busy to care and hung up as well.

When the food finally arrived, it wasn’t even good. I called once more to express my frustration, and the son refused to speak to me. In the background, I could hear him yelling that he would cancel the order, refund us, and that we’re no longer welcome to order from them.

Wij zijn 11 sept 2016 bij Asian Delight in Heemstede wezen eten. Wij hadden hier een rijsttafel voor 5 personen besteld (2 verschillende soorten). De rijsttafels bestaan uit verschillende vlees en groenten gerechten. De vleesgerechten worden echter in kleinere vorm geserveerd dan de groenten gerechten en het geheel wordt afgewerkt met een grote hoeveelheid sla in de vorm van decoratie.

Wij vroegen dan ook aan de desbetreffende ober waarom er zo weinig vlees werd geserveerd. Het antwoord hierop was dat dit de manier is waarop zij een rijsttafel serveren en dat alle Chinese restaurants dit zo doen (wat zeker niet waar is). Als wij extra vlees hadden gewild hadden wij volgens de ober beter het hele restaurants kunnen afhuren en dan hadden we alles kunnen krijgen wat we zouden willen.

Wij hebben het restaurant verlaten zonder de laatste gang (koffie) te benutten maar uiteraard wel netjes afgerekend. De drankjes zijn overigens zeer duur (10 drankjes, 6bier 0,3L, 2 icetea, 2 appelsap €33,00).

In het kort: Er wordt duidelijk bespaard op vleesgerechten Service laat te wensen over. Eten is niet bijzonder (ook niet de kleine hoeveelheid) Fantastisch voor vegetariërs (ivm de grote hoeveelheid groenten en sla). Dure drankjes (€3,30 voor een klein drankje)
