The day I had to leave Pieterburen for home, I had lunch at Bertje Jens around noon. As lunchtime was just about to begin, it was quiet, and we could choose a cozy table in the corner. The owner gave us our menus and we perused the nice selection of dishes presented. I chose the goat cheese salad with pecans and sweet-and-sour onions, which was accompanied by a very nicely balanced dressing. The cook adds locally grown herbs and flowers that makes it discernible from others I’ve had. It was such a good salad that I had absolute faith in their home baked cakes and I wasn’t disappointed. The almond-and-honey cake was absolutely delicious. By the time we left, the place was almost full and justifiably so.
