Third night of our Netherlands cycling trip - 13 folks in 7 rooms. Heusden is a beautiful old riverside town with loads of character - probably a Dutch secret - it isn't even mentioned in Rough Guide. The hotel is in the main square, actually quite difficult to spot. Outdoor eating area in front facing the square. We were given a top floor room which was very well appointed and probably refurbished recently. Breakfast was excellent in a separate room. There was space for our cycles (just) in a tiny courtyard through the breakfast room although the reception staff were unaware that we had bikes despite my putting it in the notes on the original booking.||Service in the restaurant was terrible and spoilt our stay. The booking was for 19:30, we didn't get our main courses until 21:15 and our desserts didn't come until 22:15. It was obvious to us that smaller groups were being given preferential service. This was all the more annoying given that we were restricted to a fixed menu and that the hotel invited us to make a restaurant booking (originally for 15) as soon as I made the room bookings...

We normally opt for the 'Koogelarrangement', this works out at about 150 euro per person, 2 nights, includes breakfast & 2 evening meals (One 3 course & one 4 course). The rooms are not huge, but have everything that you'll need. Heusden itself is a great little place, lovely to walk around, lots to see (plenty of art galleries) & has a great little brewery called the 'Karreltje' which has a superb bar & restaurant. It's a must if your in the area & fancy something a little different that doesn't...
