't Kookhuys — Restaurant in Hoeksche Waard

We have been back for our promised re-visit, this time with mum in tow who is on a 10 day world tour of The Netherlands! We had promised her we would eat here at some point and as she was very enthusiastic about our reports of the food and service, it had to be our first stop! So don't just believe us, mum also rated it 5 stars across the board. And at 90 years old she has had her fair share of meals out so she knows what she is talking about! Our most recent try out since moving to Oud-beijerland. And what a find it was. Excellent menu, a fantastic selection of micro brewery beers and very attentive staff. It could also be the best restaurant in the world but the Lady who told me "I'm sorry, tonight we are closed, it's a private evening for Rotary's members. Aside there is a restaurant with good prices" has to remember she doesn't know who she's speaking with. Good prices???! Never had a such haughty reply neither in the most exclusive places...

Really liked that the chef went out of his way to make good gluten free and vegan food for me. My family enjoyed their meal very much. Some little irritations (not clear on the website what is vegan and vegetarian, a price conflict and the typical Dutch nonsense with bread) make it a 4 but I loved the chef's handling...
