LIMES aan den Rijn — Restaurant in Katwijk

We had a nice dinner at this restaurant. It’s located inside an office building which makes the entry a bit odd. You enter into a big empty lobby of an office building and behind this empty reception area is the actual entrance to the restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice. Enough space to have a private discussion and nice lighting. Staff is attentive and friendly, explaining all the dishes.

We had the six course menu. The food looked nice, tasted oké only lagged a bit of refinement. The pork belly was by far the best dish. The main cours was a slice of pretty rare beef (a bit too rare for my taste and it was a bit chewy) with braised beef. This was close to being burnt but was still nice. I had a wine pairing. Most of the white wines were served just a couple of degrees to warm for my liking. I get it that the taste of the wine comes out a bit better when the wine is warmer but I love the feeling of a chilled white wine.

Tijdens mijn recente bezoek aan Limes aan de Rijn had ik gemengde gevoelens over de algehele ervaring. Het restaurant zelf is prachtig, met een mooi terras dat een schitterend uitzicht op het water biedt. De ambiance is uitnodigend en stijlvol, wat meteen een goede eerste indruk maakte.

Eten: Ik heb gebruik gemaakt van het 5-gangen all-in menu. Het eten was lekker, maar helaas niet heel bijzonder. De amuses waren een positief punt van de avond, met goed gebalanceerde smaken en mooie presentaties. De 2 voorgerechten waren verrassend leuke combinaties. Echter, het hoofdgerecht viel tegen. Het stuk vlees dat ik kreeg was taai, wat de eetervaring zeker niet ten goede kwam. De chimichurri jus die erbij geserveerd werd, had een laag smaakniveau en kon het gerecht niet redden. Service: De service liet helaas te wensen over. Een van de eerste dingen die opviel was dat het servet op tafel vuil was, wat natuurlijk een slechte start van de avond betekende. De gastheer kwam professioneel over, maar zijn bijdrage bleef beperkt tot een ingestudeerd praatje, zonder enige oprechte interactie of verdere interesse in ons als gasten. Verder kwam ik er thuis achter dat er 1 fles water extra was aangeslagen na het nakijken van de bon. Maar dat is mijn fout.
