This is the most recent hotel in Voorburg, which opened doors in the old premises of the Hotel Movenpick. It has a restaurant, which seems to be very popular, Miss Jones, always fully booked and with good ratings. Since I don’t trust in the food taste of Dutch people, I went to check this restaurant with my own eyes and my own taste. I only managed to get a place for lunch last Saturday. The place was very well restored, great ambience inside, cozy and with nice dark light. And that was all on positive aspects. The food: since the available choices were not many, I asked for the Jones Burger; what a disappointment. Have you ever tried to taste a burger where the meat is slightly warm and all the rest is absolutely cold? Well, that’s what happened. A burger with cold onion, cold salad, cold sauce…. You hardly tasted the warmth of the meat. Awful. I made my opinion available to the girl that was serving me. Not sure if she passed the message. The service: below average. Too many servants, confusion, mess, not really up to date with the menu. Clearly, some servants who had no experience whatsoever. One of them came to the table clearly with a flu or a heavy cold as she could not stop blowing in… The price: Extremely overpriced for the poor food quality available. Ingredients were very simple and although they were trying to prepare some sight-full small dishes, like the tuna wrap, the result was really nothing special and, above all, not justifying the price paid. In conclusion: what the restaurant had in terms of good ambience, was not compensated in terms of food, service and price. A big...
Read moreA cool place, funky fancy, upscale vibe with great fusion food. Can't believe it took us more than a year to discover this hidden gem. Food quality and taste was up there with the best around here, and the surprising part is the prices are low in comparison to other similar dining experiences also in Voorburg.
They say this place gets rocking later in the evening with live DJ, we left right before the volume turned up (not that we don't enjoy a good time and music, just a factor of our timing that night).
The only part we had negative to say was it got really busy with a large party dining nearby, and when they started their meal our service became slow. But up until then it was efficient as we like it to be.
We had the chefs choice 5 course sampler, and each course came out with 3 different dishes for my wife and I to share. We also received many extras (amuse-bouche), equating to another course of food.
Servers were very friendly, and genuinely interested in us as neighbors, really aimed to understand and meet our dining tastes, and until it got very busy they did an amazing job at keeping the dining experience flowing very well. I have to express again how polite and genuinely interested they were of us a people and to ensure our taste were met.
We will certainly be back, very nice food and dining experience no matter the cost, but factoring in the value, I don't think you'll find this bang for your buck anywhere else...
Read moreStaff is super friendly but they are all young, slack and basically have no idea re hospitality.
Service is slow, bar benches are dirty and there is no attention to detail.
Dinner menu is old and basically not that great. Most of the food is frozen + heated and over priced.
I ordered a burger and it was extremely plain. Chips had to be ordered on the side.
UPDATE
After dinner I order an Irish coffee and the photos below show what I got vs what I expected. I politely mentioned to the manager that expectations re an Irish coffee didn’t meet reality and there might be some room for improvement. The bar manager clearly didn’t appreciate my feedback and basically didn’t care / in any way appreciate my feedback.
I had breakfast at miss jones 5 days in a row and it’s disappointing that the breakfast is same same each day. There is literally no changes / deviations to the same boring breakfast. The scramble egg is dry / uninspiring, the bacon is dry and left for too long in the serving tray, the sausages are cheap with little to no taste etc.
On top, the morning coffee is machine coffee with basically no taste.
@Miss Jones - you need to...
