I approached Bakkerij Paulissen with the hopeful heart of a pastry lover craving buttery bliss. Midday, prime croissant hour, wallet in hand, dreams in tow. I walked out with what looked like golden perfection—but alas, looks can be deceiving.
The croissant? Dryer than my sense of humor after three Zoom meetings. I took a bite and nearly triggered a puff pastry sandstorm. For the price, I was expecting flaky, buttery magic. What I got was more “desert expedition” than Parisian delight.
