HoneyPie — Restaurant in Middelburg

I used to love honeypie but my friends and I had such a horrible experience today. Firstly, I came in with four other friends and we talked and spent 43 euro in the hour that we were there. We were having a great time. Three of my friends left and two different friends came to join us so they asked us to move to a different table. This again would have been fine. We start to study there and buy two more drinks. One of my friends laptop started to die so we moved to a different table. Then one older gentleman started to get rude with us. We once again buy a round of coffee and cakes and continue to study. He comes up to tell us that if we want to study there is the library. Keep in mind at this point we’ve spent 70 euro in about 2 and a half hours, much more than the average amount spent. We would understand if it had been busy but the cafe was also half empty. We all just choose to ignore it but our moods were definitely lower. When we go to pay thirty minutes later he chooses to bring up once again that it’s an establishment that serves food and drink and not an appropriate place to study. He once again brings up the library (which does not open on Sundays anyway). If it had been busy or if we had not spent such a significant amount I might have let this slide but to treat us with such consistent disrespect and imply we were unwelcome was uncalled for when it was quiet and we had spent so much in a short timeframe. Good place, friendly owner. However need to confirm your gluten free items are gluten free and your processes associated with handling gluten free items are appropriate. Took family member there today and had gluten free item (tart) that likely had high amount of gluten in it. Not ideal, as they are currently very sick… better to state low gluten content if precautions not properly taken(different utensils, cooking pans, stored in area separate or above gluten filled items, etc.).
