We were a group of 6 with the baby on the 25th of October. We really wanted to come eat at Il Senso with the family. Firstly, we couldn’t reach them by phone for days and when we finally did reach them a few days before - they told us all was booked and we could try calling again on the day itself (so we did the reservation at the other pizzeria just in case). On the 25th of October they told us we could come at 17:30 until 18:45, which we thought was okay since our baby has to be in bed anyway around 19:00. We arrived on time, we ordered drinks, some small starter and immediately main course, which included a pancake for the baby. Firstly, they forgot about the pancake and brought it way later once we reminded of it. We finished the drinks and the starter right away, and were sitting for 40 min waiting for main. At 18:30 they came to us saying we have to leave in 15 min, but we still didn’t revive the food we ordered (!!!) which was shocking to hear! We told them the same. The girl went back to the manager and came again saying at 18:40 the food will come any minute, and we have time until 18:55. We told them that it’s impossible to finish the whole pizza in 10-15 min. We refused to rush with eating as it was not our mistake. She went back to the manager again, in the meantime the food came 45 min later at 18:45(and our reservation was till 18:45! ) and the manager came to us saying that we can sit outside and finish our food and maybe even a dessert - but outside, because another group was coming at 19:00 and they needed our table. We rushed with eating, we did finish our food in 10 min and were done before 18:55, however this was just ridiculous. We didn’t want any dessert whatsoever, When paying we asked for a discount or anything of that kind, because clearly the kitchen/waiters messed something up. We were waiting for food for more than 45 min, even though we came and ordered on time. They refused of any discount. So we are not coming to that place anymore, and should have stayed at la piccola Italia instead. They clearly need to work on their time management, and decline a reservation if you know you want be able to serve food. But apparently, they just want to accept as many people as possible to earn money. In the past it used to be a very cozy small pizzeria, with a great service, which we always enjoyed coming to. Read moreOne of my favorite places in Middelburg. Food is always tasty. But I went there yesterday and the service was very bad. The starter arrived before the drinks. The food arrived without asking for it, while I was still finishing the starters. Felt very rushed. And after the pasta came nobody came to check on us again. I wanted to take the food home because more than half was left but in 15-20 minutes nobody came to ask if the food is okai or if we need another drink. We had to get up and go pay at the bar. If I go to eat out I expect hospitality. You don't have to camp my table but coming to check if I need a drink or if I am done with one course to bring the other is a must. And if you see I stopped eating and in 15 minutes you don't check if I might need anything else that is just bad service. As germans being on holiday in Middleburg, we entered the Restaurant, once a dutch waitress discovered we were german, she told us the Restaurant is booked out, unless we would have a reservation.
We didn't but many tables were empty; even when I talked in english to her, she continued in dutch. A female couple told us, they were about to leave and we could use their table... so we did.
We waited 20 minutes for a waiter, 35 minutes for the meals and another 30 minutes for the Bill. During our stay many dutch people received a warm welcome and were escorted to those empty tables; German Families which entered the Rest. after us have been treated as bad as we were - and been refuses.
