De Oude Plek — Restaurant in Rotterdam

I went out to eat at "De Oude Plek" with a group. My boyfriend is severely allergic to egg. So, I asked multiple times, if the dish he wanted to order contains "eggs". They told us "No eggs". after the dinner my boyfriend got sick. Severe stomach ache, vomiting & diarrheic. (Anaphylactic reaction) Luckily he didn't eat much of the recipe. But, he got quite sick.

Today I went there to ask again, "What is in the dish he ordered?" This time the waitress told me: "No egg for sure" then she asked the cook. He confirmed the recipe did contain egg.

They asked then: "What do you want from us? You maybe want a discount?

I just expected an apology since, if my boyfriend eats too much eggs, he could actually die.

So, also not vegan since the dish contained egg and milk in the end.

Absolutely love this place, what a gem outside of the city centre! I just googled 'vegetarian restaurant' as I was looking for a place in this neighbourhood, and I was so lucky this place came up. Service is done by two very nice ladies who's Dutch isn't always great but they try to cater to your needs as good as possible. Also for vegans this place is great, they even have vegan ice cream. I really like De Oude Plek. We went vegetarian a couple of years ago and really missed eating decent Chinese food (or what goes for Chinese over here in the Netherlands). Then we found De Oude Plek, who consistenly serve great vegetarian (and sometimes even vegan) food. The dishes really taste like their non-vegetarian counterparts, thanks to the proper use of seitan (gluten based). And they use it WELL. Their restaurant exudes a typical 'small Chinese restaurant' vibe, which I personally LOVE.
