My visit to Diepnoord was an absolute disaster from start to finish. We didn't go in with high expectations, but the experience fell shockingly below even the lowest standards.

To begin, the two small starters of Comté, ham, and bread were merely fine. However, the main dishes were horrendous. The salad with feta was so bitter it was practically inedible. The steak tartare was bland and generic, utterly devoid of flavor. The pasta with tiger shrimp was undercooked, making it impossible to enjoy.

What truly ruined the experience, though, was the appalling service. When I notified the staff about the issues with our meal, their only response was a dismissive "thanks for letting us know." No apology, no effort to make things right—just an indifferent acknowledgment that left us feeling ignored and frustrated.

To top it all off, I paid €95 for this nightmare of a dining experience. Not only did I leave feeling nauseous, but I also felt thoroughly disappointed and regretful of my choice to dine at Diepnoord. This is the first time in my life that I have taken the effort to write a negative review, which should give you an idea of how terrible this experience was. The poor service compounded the terrible food, making it one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Avoid this place...

Diepnoord completely blew me away. This is by far the best food I've had in Rotterdam. Their menu is incredibly unique, and each dish is executed to perfection.

I made a TikTok post about it, joking that the restaurant actually adds salt to their dishes unlike most Dutch restaurants because, honestly, the seasoning was spot on. Every dish was perfectly balanced in flavor.

A special mention has to go to the mushroom potato pasta. It was an umami explosion and easily the best pasta I've had in the Netherlands, surprisingly made with potato, which was pure genius. Also, the squid dish was incredible. I’m still wondering how they made the calamari so tender and melt-in-your-mouth.

The service was excellent, and the ambiance really added to the overall experience. Diepnoord is the ideal spot for a date night, or just to impress yourself with their expertly crafted menu.
