This place holds a sentimental part of my heart, but I could not tolerate what happened Wednesday evening. Ramen Ohashi was where my now husband brought me on our first date almost five years ago. Since then, we’ve visited this establishment countless times, almost monthly. We entered at 18.38 for our reservation (we reserved for 17.00) and left at 19.08 because there were two servers, and although they passed my husband and me over 10 times, they never came to take our order for dinner or drinks. It was incredibly disappointing as my husband even called the waiter; he signalled he would come in a bit but passed several times after. We stood and left the place once we realised we would not get good service. Unfortunately, this has soured the place that means so much to my husband and me, and I doubt I’ll ever return. It is very sad that my husband even theorises that it was probably racism that caused this blatant ignoring...
Read moreThe ramen is made with a chicken base a little thinner/less fatty than I would expect from a pure chicken broth. The noodles are excellent. The karaage is excellent. The gyoza are average. The added chashu to the ramen upgrade didn't have the jelly like fat that it would have if cooked for long enough. Both the added chicken pieces and chashu were still refrigerated temperature when served. The chilli powder is only slightly spicy but I guess you can add a bunch of it. No asahi or kirin served yet but they're waiting on a liquor license. Feels a bit pricey at the moment as you need the xl upgrade option before you can get the chashu. UPDATE: chashu is now a cheaper add on. Perfect. Maybe an in between option would be good? The place was packed out for the whole of it's currently short opening hours. No vegetarian options but I'm not sure what you would expect from a...
Read moreYou can absolutely tell that the ramen broth and noodles are home made; the broth has a more slightly thicker consistency, packed full with flavour, and the noodles are thicker than other ramen places I have dined at. You get a good amount, and also, a variety of toppings that come standard with the dish so you don’t need to order any extra. Both the quantity and quality of the ramen is reflected in the price. The decor, clean lines and black beams with the open counter does give an impression of Japan as you see in the guide books or travel shows which added to the experience. The number of seats are quite limited and the space is a little tight, so it might be a good idea to reserve. In terms of flavour and authenticity, I highly...
