Always an interesting experience sampling an unfamiliar Nigerian restaurant in a new city, it can go either way..... fortunately, it went the right way with Ebony Afrokitchen. We got there, on a number 3 bus from town just after the place opened at 2pm. Madam, later to become know as Queenesta, was warm and welcoming when we entered. It was through her encouragement that I went for pounded yam and oha soup (I usually stick with something less risky, like jollof) with goat meat. Queenesta assured us all food was prepared fresh from scratch, so it took around 40 mins to arrive. There is a good range of alcoholic (Star, Gulder, Origin, Guinness, palmy) and non-alcoholic drinks BUT alcohol for takeaway only. The soup was tasting great and I easily finished it all.....only needed to eat once the whole day! Queenesta jisted with us, some 9ja stories. Food was good, will definitely go back.

It was a beautiful day, and after a long walk, my friend suggested we try something new — an African restaurant nearby. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff 🤗. I ordered “Wheat Fufu”for the first time, and it was such an eye-opening experience! I never knew wheat could be enjoyed this way — soft, hearty, and absolutely delicious 😊. The Fish Fufu was full of rich, authentic flavor, perfectly paired with a chilled African Fanta and African Coke. The portions were generous — we couldn’t even finish everything (clearly, we haven’t developed an African appetite yet 😅). Overall, it was a memorable and flavorful experience. I’d definitely love to revisit and explore more African dishes next time! 🌍🍽️

Ebony Afrokitchen is the first restaurant that i have been that specialized in West African cuisine, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We just took what the waitress recommended: Jollof rice with fried chicken, pepper soup, vegetable soup and a fufu. The portions are generous and all of them are really tasty. I especially enjoyed the Jollof Rice as it's so flavorful, but the rest are equally enjoyable. The fufu (the dough-like food) is something i have never had and it's a new experience for me, and i liked it! The pepper soup is a soup with cow(?) innards. Would recommend this restaurant for anyone who want to have a taste of Western African food!

The restaurant itself is not the nicest place, e.g. nails sticking out the wall and general look but that’s not too much of an issue. Our issue was the service. Food took over 1 1/2h to come, nothing crazy was ordered of the menu. This would be fine if communicated but no. No one updated us, our drinks were clearly empty, no one asked if we maybe wanted to order more, we had to chase the waiter down to get an update. The excuse was that it was busy, not even half the tables were full, and we even saw food arriving on tables that came in after us. The food itself was alright, but I would not come back for it. It was very heavy on the stomach in the following hours. Also note that they do not have the license to...
