Review of a food critic.
Today for a birthday we strolled through Valkenburg and came upon this restaurant.
We decided to sit down and were greeted very fast, it wasn't the most cheerfull greet but still a nice one.
The servers ask what you want to drink almost as soon as you sit down with no menu availble on the table ( this seemed to be an issue with multiple surrouanding tables, the menu could easily be placed in the holder on the table)
We had lunch, i took a cappucino with the spicy sandwich, and my wife had the kroket sandwich with tea.
The cappucino was mostly cream and not very pleasant to drink ( there are way better cappucino's) the spicy chicken sandwich. It was a 4/10 meal. The chicken could do better if it where meat from the breast instead of the thigh, even thigh can be tasty if prepared well, this chicken looked boiled instead of grilled or baked (grilling would lift the sandwich to a 5/10 already) the bread was nice, very fluffy and had a nice crust ( not homemade, probably from the bakery around the corner) The sauce was okay, way to much chili sauce which made the bun soggy after 2 min when served and overal the 3 main tastes of this where baked onion, chili sauce, and rucola for the rest the sandwich was very mediocre.
For the tea, cant go wrong there, hot water, it was very overpriced though, almost 3 euro's for a cup of tea.
The kroket sandwich, well if you ever had kroket you know its a delight, but the sandwich itself was very very simple, just 2 peaces of white bread, a colorful mini side salad no one ever eats due to it being more decoration then edible.
The given mustard came out of a packet fron the brand heinz, its a good brand but as a reataurant they could do better, the best would be to make their own mustard, with a hint of honey would be best.
The view is nice, there's not a lot to look at but yeah that is Valkenburg square, the servers where hasted but they where nice and took the short feedback given very well.
The price, given the time we live in i would say the price is a bit high.
Almost 30 euro's for 2 sandwiches and drinks of medium size afterwards you will feel a bit unsatisfied, the price would range better in the price of around 22-24 euro's for the very simple food.
Given this all i give them 3/5 stars, fhere is room for improvement but if you want an easy (plain) meal this a...
Read moreWe went here after reading the good reviews about the burgers and the gluten free beers. The ambience was nice. Then we got the menus and I was surprised that they only offered two burgers. The gluten free beer selection was large, about five, and the prices for the food also large. 16€ for a burger and fries. Not many fries, they tasted good though, a medium rare 200g burger patty, although they said medium, and a tiny gluten free bun, no extra charge. At least make a gluten free burger bun the size of the burger and not a mini baguette gluten free bread roll. The service started off well with the first waitress (brunette) until the second one (blonde) took over. She didn’t respect our allergies, wishes or hearing problems. She almost hit my fiancés face twice, once serving the food and secondly removing the plates! We ordered a burger without all the extra ingredients and still paid the same price as a burger with all the toppings. All burgers, we were four people, we all ordered a burger, tasted good, but there were hardly any toppings. Sadly you and me make better burgers at home for half the price. I wasn’t full and expected more. Be honest people,...
Read moreI don't know if the complete staff has been replaced since the other reviews, but this was about the worst eating experience ever.
Of the five class B asparagus (not really sufficient for a main course and why not class 'A') at least two were not properly peeled (so it was impossible to cut them). They were served with french fries ("Sorry we're out of potatoes", potatoes! How can a restaurant run out of potatoes) and without butter (which we got on request, I still had hopes then).
My steak was very difficult to cut and even more difficult to chew. The few parts of fried potato in the vegetable mix were horrible. Tasted like the were recycled from previous plates. Five times.
But the worst was that our complaints were simply ignored. "Everything okay?" "No". And while explaining what was wrong, the waitress just walked away to another table.
Why I didn't do the same? (Walking away that is) I was with my 80 year old mother as her birthday present and din;t want to create to much fuss. But if I had been there only with my girlfriend, I would have left for sure.
But the fries were good and one of the waitresses...
