Mamma Mia — Restaurant in Vijfheerenlanden

The staff is kind and the restaurant has a good vibe. Unfortunately the food is terrible, and I have no idea why the ratings don’t represent this. It’s too bad because this town could use quality restaurants, and the owner seemed genuinely nice and invested in his restaurant.

The cannoli had chewy pasta, unevenly cooked. The ricotta/spinach inside didn’t taste fresh, and it was, it felt it came from a supplier like Sligro rather than being home cooked. The pizza was poor - who puts the same salami on it as you get for your Dutch sandwich? Again the basics sucked - the dough didn’t have any air or fluffiness which makes me think it’s not made at the restaurant by a skilled chef. Calamari came from a supplier and looks almost factory made. The sauce that came with the shrimp did not taste like it was freshly made and lacked finesse. The lasagna was insultingly bad - overcooked, contained purchased sauces(?) rather than freshly made and no bechamelsauce. Overall a very poor experience and we...

Mein absoluter Lieblingsitaliener!

Wir waren zu Besuch in Utrecht und haben uns einen Abend den kleinen schönen Ort Vianen angesehen… Die sehr einladende Front des Lokals war Anlass hier unser Abendessen einzunehmen. Der Innenbereich war äußerst gut besucht, sodass wir Sorge hatten keinen Tisch mehr zu bekommen, dann haben wir den Zugang zur Terrasse entdeckt und wir waren absolut begeistert… Super gepflegte und geräumige Terrasse, welche trotz des guten Wetters überhaupt nicht überfüllt war. Also schnell unseren Wunschplatz besetzt und sofort vom netten Personal auf die Getränkewünsche angesprochen worden.

Mediterrane Gefühle kommen auf, umgeben vom wunderschönen Kanal und Olivenbäumen… Eine Speisekarte wie in einem Ristorante direkt in Venedig. Zur Vorspeise gab es Gambas mit frischen Tomaten in einer herrlichen Sauce. Die Hauptspeise waren dann eine Pizza Frutti di Mare und hausgemachte gefüllte Pasta in Tomatensauce. Besser isst man auch in Italien nicht! Auf der herrlich knusprigen Pizza waren so viele Meeresfrüchte drauf, sowas findet man nirgendwo anders… Als Digestif brachte man uns eisgekühlten echten Limoncelli. Ein perfekter Abschluss für diesen durchaus gelungenen Besuch.

They serviced us a different pizza than what we ordered, and never asked if everything is okey. We ended up eating whatever they served, despite the pizza was too salty, to catch our transportation, and when I explained to them at the end, they were smiling without any apology. Never eating...
