Restaurant De Knip — Restaurant in Voorschoten

We were invited to a friend’s 60th birthday to this restaurant, which is in a white-wash themed rural setting on the Vliet canal in Voorschoten, just between Leiden, Wassenaar and Leidschendam. This quite a chique restaurant, has a cosy waterfront terrace and private parking. When parking, make sure that you strategically put it in such a way, that it cannot be blocked by other cars…

I understood that this is a family business, with the owner as the Chef, the wife and children as hosts. Very friendly, efficient and professional staff. We had a 5 course set dinner; the starters and dessert were fantastic, tasted good and with beautiful presentation. The main course was, however (to me) quite disappointing, the meat was quite bland and dry, to my Asian taste.

VERY DISAPPOINTED! De Knip is one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, yesterday’s experience was just really really poor. I was just so disappointed. The location is fabulous, and the food was (as always) just excellent but the service from our waiter was some of the worst that I have ever seen and absolutely not what I have enjoyed in the past from De Knip. Throughout our meal he was simply rude and unpleasant. Constantly interrupted, messed up our order, was dismissive of our questions. Everything just seemed like it was too much trouble and that he couldn’t be bothered. His entire attitude was unbelievably unprofessional. He needs some significant coaching or to be removed as he absolutely does not reflect De Knip’s standards and is hurting...

Prachtig gelegen. Mooi terras dat onderhouden wordt tijdens warme lunch tijd. Best leuk dat stof op je bord dat rondwaart. Ga lekker schoffelen voordat de gasten er zijn of op een dag dat je niet open bent. Zwarte brigade begroette ons met de melding dat de keuken pas om 12 uur open ging. Het was kwart voor 12 toen we aankwamen..... (voordat je zit, aperitief gedronken en kaart bekeken hebt is het al ruim na 12-en, echt gastvrij klinkt dat niet) het niet zeker was of de keuken capaciteit had. We waren gast 3 en 4... en druk werd het niet. Hoera het mocht. Ze was erg vriendelijk en deed haar best. Lege glazen en bordjes weghalen lukte pas toen we ze zelf maar op de rand van de tafel zetten. Er twee keer zelf aanvullend ook maar om vroegen. Geen enkele keer glazen bijgevuld. Brood idem. Ook dat lege bord bleef maar op de tafel staan. Voorgerecht zag er prima uit. Mooi op het bord. Smaak van de geitenkaas beetje vlak. Hoofdgerecht ging mis met intolerantie. Past niet bij Michelin uitstraling. Zelf achterkomen helaas en bord moest dus terug. Dessert was prachtig en smaakte erg goed. Applaus. Koffie ok. Schuim ingezakt. Hoog geprijsd. Maakt die pretentie niet waar.

Wel jammer dat de eigenaar alleen maar reageert op positieve hosanna recensies terwijl daar geen enkel leermoment uit te halen is. Een betalende klant die de moeite neemt om speciaal te reizen en dan ook nog een recensie te willen schrijven is voor mij als ondernemer altijd een groot...
