We unfortunately cannot recommend the restaurant Máxima. The main issue is that it cannot be described as "Argentinian/Mexican" and, for what it is, we felt it was expensive.
First, some of the argentinian staples like chimichurri sauce (which is basically a must have with meat dishes), dulce de leche, or alfajores (the typical desserts) were not part of the offer.
Secondly, the meat (even though it was cooked okay) was not prepared in an argentinian manner (neither the cut nor the cooking style). We got a platter with various things and, for instance, the ribs were thin and cooked in a US BBQ style (instead of the meatier and less overseasoned ribs you would expect in an Argentinian place).
We also got a couple of starters. One of them was the (mexican) avocado soup, which we enjoyed. The other one was the provoleta (argentinian grilled cheese), which was underwhelming; it was not seasoned enough (it had some spices on top, but less than one would have normally) and was missing the typical chimichurri on the side. It was very similar to grilling Dutch cheese in your own house.
Lastly, we got crème brûlée for dessert. The texture of the custard was chunky. Moreover, normally, the sugar on top of the custard should be caramelised on the spot, before serving, but this was not the case. Instead it was apparent that it had been cooked earlier, put in the fridge and then served, with added powdered sugar (on top of the already present caramelised sugar).
Apart from that the staff was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant.
One last note for the restaurant: you may want to check the Spanish spelling in...
Read moreHad the provolone cheese starter which was okay but then it was all downhill. I had the Argentinian Rib eye which had some strange chili powder on top. The steak was chewy and I gave up after about halfway. The baked potato was dry and again some strange powder mixed in with the butter that didn't help it taste better. Avoided dessert and just had a coffee. Our waiter was friendly but it was largely empty in the restaurant so, low score for atmosphere. Definitely not...
Read moreEten is hier zeer goed!
We komen...
