I was told about the doughnuts so thought it rude not to give em a try (even though I'm not typically a doughnut liker). Fricken yummy, bought a heap for famzwe were visiting. Wow they were so fresh and just delicious, everyone commented. Also, best fruit pies I've ever eaten, for real. The pastry is divine, (probably half a pound of butter in each one tho) The rhubarb filling though secondary to the pastry was good also. On the way back from our trip we stopped by again and my husband bought a cream donut sandwich. He insisted I taste it he was so impressed. Not so keen i took a bite, and then another and another. He laughed at my expression, it was soooo good. It's just as well this place is 5hrs drive from our place.. Edit: Bought some this week - pastry recipe appears to have changed in the past couple years and definitely has less butter and tastes stock standard now (sign of the times everything is so expensive now). So disappointed. However the Paua pie was very nice.

Quick, efficient smiling faces and clean. Clean tables, floors and cabinets....My favorite kai here is the apple pie....in the pic I only have half of my pie there as I keep the other half for later....mmmmm it is tasty and for the 4 bucks it's worth it but you gotta add your own cream like I do....I take mine home, blast it for w minutes in the microwave then add my cream and ohhhhhhh delicious.....go try these pies. They also have apple & rhubarb plus apricot...

Still a good place to stop for a pie and a cream donut. Can recommend the Steak and Cheese pie, tasty gravy, chunks of beef with lots of cheese in chrispy pastry - just the way I like it. Made in house. Old school bakery food with comfortable seats and big tables. Parking behind the shop with a walkway to the main road (on. commercial Street)

I have stopped here twice over the last 6 months. They are known for their doughnuts.

The staff are friendly enough.

But I did purchase a mince and cheese pie and a doughnut on my last visit.

The doughnuts were actually ok, not great as everyone talks about. Not worth the hype st ALL!!!!

But the mince and cheese pie for $7, was terrible, just no meat in it, alot of dough and nothing. You would get more in a Ponsonby pie at 180 grams. Worst pie have had, average filling as well.

I don't know what it is with Northland bakeries charging high prices for VERY substandard food, but I wouldn't ever go back or recommend this place.

The good thing is as this and two other places I have been to nearby are SO bad it's made me make my own lunch.

So much nicer than usual bakery rubbish at huge prices.

Maybe best to not stop and find another place that offers better quality food at cheaper prices.

Came in on 3rd of January on way back down to whangarei and as I had received a voucher for $35 bux for a fishing comp thought better use it, as I was in store a follow lady was short $1 and the lady serving was a bit rude to her and pretty much asked her to leave, her and a fellow colleague proceeded to talk about her calling her a crackhead amongst other stuff, I had allready asked the fellow lady who was mopping floors about my voucher and was advised to talk to server, as it was late not much was on offer, however the lady serving me pointed out my voucher was 3 days out and wouldn't even budge on anything, she got really rude instantly so I just walked out and left the voucher there, not a very good experience. Wouldn't recommend...
