While I was in the queue to be served, I noticed that there was only one pie (lamb) and one sausage roll left. An assistant was adding fresh rolls to the display and I asked her if there were any more pies, to which she replied no. I ordered the sausage roll and lamb pie and drinks; I received a buzzer for the drinks and a number for the food. After about 10 minutes, the buzzer sounded and I went and got the drinks. Some 20 minutes later our food had not arrived, so my wife went and asked if we'd been forgotten. A member of staff said it was a new system and it may have been mixed up. She was told to wait while it was prepared. After another 10 minutes my wife got fed up with waiting and came back to our table. 5 minutes later, our food turned up. My wife's lamb pie somehow turned into a steak and cheese one; strange, given that I was told that there were no more. It was also cold! In fact the grated cheese in the pie hadn't even melted. My sausage roll was fine, but I'd rather have had a pie. A compete farce. And they...
Read moreWe arrived and ordered for four for breakfast - eggs, full breakfast, muesli and corn fritters.
The coffee came out quickly (though they had no cream for the long black) and it was good.
The food was another story. The muesli came out with no milk, hardly any yoghurt and no spoon (knife and Fork?). The corn fritters and big breakfast arrived so late that two of our four guests had finished their meals, when it finally arrived, the corn fritters were raw and doughy inside and being pregnant, I returned them to the kitchen to be cooked Properly as they would have raw Egg inside.
To my surprise, the chef did not cook them properly but sent them back out saying “that’s how they’re made”. After refusing to microwave them for me, we asked for a refund (which we received) and left.
Such a shame that a lovely location with a deep history is spoiled by poor hospitality operators with no love for their craft or pride in...
Read moreHaving eaten here several times previously, I must say I was underwhelmed today. Coffee is no longer brought to the table but a buzzer alerts you to collect it and take it to your table yourself. I ordered a flat white which had a multi-coloured topping which might be fine for a 5 year old but wasn't appreciated myself. There were 6 of us. We waited far too long for our breakfasts, in the end we asked if we'd been forgotten as people who arrived after us were eating. Eventually breakfast was served, two at a time. Mine came without cutlery so I had to wait for my cutlery to arrive with the next two breakfasts. I ordered eggs bene, the toast was thick and not buttered. Not impressed. We were given complimentary pots of tea to compensate for the long wait for breakfast. There doesn't appear to be a kids menu any longer, nor...
