We made a last minute booking through First Table to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. We ordered entrées Garlic pretzel bread topped with parmesan cheese and half a dozen fresh oysters battered. (I'm sure they would have been lovely raw if you like them that way, I just don't) For Main we ordered Wagyu Beef Bavette - Seasoned with Merlot salt with smoked mash and Horopito Lamb Rump - paired with braised potatoes, finished in beef tallow , drizzled with Dijon mustard & thyme butter sauce. For Dessert we ordered Sticky Date pudding Chocolate pots de creme Every mouthful was perfectly prepared, cooked and presented. The service was lovely. The waitress offered to take a photo of us. Each course was delivered within a short space of us completing the previous one. The water views were great even for an overcast rainy day. We couldn't have asked for better. Thank you.

Spectacular location in Ohope, Whakatane. A very popular dinner (only) place so, if possible, make a reservation. We were lucky to fet a table for two without a reservation but were told we'd need to vacate 75 minutes later. Filly Fully licensed restaurant + fish and chips on-the-wharf style dining. Wine selection satisfactory although a somewhat limited by-the-glass selection of wines. Next time we'll book ahead if we can (bearing in mind the venue doesn't open until 5pm).

Omg so delicious! The lamb was our fave but the carrot ginger puree with the fish of the day was incredible. They use this gorgeous red/fushia seasoning on some items and it So pretty and tasty. The coconut flavour in the ceviche is incredible. Unique and really good. The snapper was amazing. Can’t say enough. Great wine list! We love food and absolutely will come back!

Long awaited night out with family we hadn’t seen since before lockdown. Unfortunately the restaurant was overwhelmingly loud and crowded. Too many tables packed in and too busy for the poor staff who were fantastic but really stretched. High praise for our waitress who was unfailingly friendly and polite. We were told there would be a delay with the food, and we waited about an hour and a half for our mains. The biggest issue was our inability to have a chat without yelling because of the noise in the restaurant. Husband ordered fish of the day which he said was lovely. The other three of us ordered the $30 fish & chips which looked and tasted just like what you’d get from your local takeaway for a third of the price. When we were paying, we mentioned our disappointment with the fish & chips, and they took the price of one meal off the bill. Our mistake was not turning around and leaving as soon as we arrived, but we had booked a table for four and felt obliged to stay. We were pleased to see they were so busy after being closed during lockdown but I think the number of diners should be limited, and tables spaced out more to keep the noise down, improve the service time, and improve the overall dining experience. We have had dinner here before and...

Made a reservation but was it was forgotten. A table was available, so no harm there... But shows how disorganized the place is.

Waited 45 min for Garlic bread and another 45 minutes for mains. During that time no one checked on us for drinks and water. Had to find our own water when we ran out. When mains we're served they were plunked down without so much as an apology. I asked about cutlery, but they didn't hear or bother. Had to raid another table for it when I realized it was coming.

Was not offered a dessert menu.

Went to pay, and had to sit up at the bar for an uncomfortable amount of time while the servers passed repeatedly. Finally paid. Again, not offered any sort of apology or sorry for the insanely long wait.

Catch of the day was decent, but was super hungry by the time I ate it that I gulped it down.

The butter Chickpea quinoa dish was not as good as an average Indian takeaway.

Will not be back. Everyone seemed to be in a bad mood, clearly being slammed and was not handling it well. Let people know about long waits, check on them, and don't cut...

A very nice meal ruined by poor service and astounding comments from the maitr'd/owner? Having ordered food and wine we waited over half an hour with neither turning up. When we asked after our wine we were told the order had been misplaced. The wine arrived with 2 glasses despite 5 requested. 3 more glasses requested and after them not turning up after another 5 minutes we went and got them from the bar. Waited longer for our food and when those who arrived after us had been served their meal for 15 minutes or so, we wondered if our food ordered had been misplaced. By this time it was over an hour after we we had arrived. A comment to that effect to the maitr'd/owner(?) was met with no apology but the abrupt response we had not been there that long and telling us to breathe!! It would be the worst example of "service" we have ever experienced. A pity, as the location and the meal...
