Doughboys Bakery and Cafe — Restaurant in Canterbury

We went there today for lunch (Darfield Bakery closed as usual for anything remotely holiday related). I was a little apprehensive as the name doesn't do it for me. Anyway we were pleasantly surprised. I had the BLT and chips and it was very good, my wife and adult son had the nachos and they both said they were great. Nachos has become a bit of a yardstick for us as it is surprising how many places can't make good Nachos! We also had a couple of decaf lattes and an iced coffee, again all very good, The iced coffee was nice and simple, ice, coffee and milk, just as it should be, no cream in a can or dollups of ice cream. Staff were friendly too. Our only regret was not getting a piece of carrot cake to go with the coffees. Only 4 stars as the name is a little bland, there are some faded stickers/posters on the window and there is no water to hand or glasses, for water or iced coffee - all easily fixed team. The waitress was still great though and gave us some water in a plastic cup. So in summary if you are looking for a light meal at a very reasonable price this place is better than you...

Really nice to see a cafe/diner opened after 5pm on Saturday. Enjoyed our overall experience at the cafe & the Manager & his wife were the most welcoming lovely couple. Milkshake was made with good ingredients (Yummy). Diner was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. Bathroom available in store. Lots of homemade cafe foods, pies meals & drinks to choose from the menus. Pricing not too bad we thought for the meals & cafe foods.. 5 stars & will visit again.
