Arlo — Restaurant in Christchurch

We’ve been here twice. The first time was excellent – great service, and the homemade gluten free base was probably the best gluten free base we’ve had in New Zealand. That pizza alone convinced us to come back for my birthday.

Unfortunately, the second visit didn’t live up to the first. It was only after we had ordered our mains, starters and drinks (and started our drinks) that we were told there were no gluten free bases available. We were offered other gluten free options from the menu, but we had really come for the pizza. We finished our drinks and starters, paid in full, and went elsewhere for dinner.

There was no attempt to find a solution and no acknowledgment of the birthday, even though we had selected that option when booking. The starter we did have was still good, but the experience was disappointing. If we return, we will call ahead on the day itself to confirm gluten free bases...

My son and Daughter-in-Law, with their young family, son of 3years and daughter of four months, took my husband and I to Arlo's for my Birthday treat and treat it was, we started with a cheese boards of our chosen cheeses and what I call Italian butter, {Olive oil and balsamic vinegar) for dipping, which was delicious, we then followed with the best Pizza I have ever tasted fluffy yet crispy and the topping of Pepperoni was superb, for dessert we had tiramisu and Apple Crumble. The Mulled wine was a great accompiment on this cold winter's day and our 3 year old enjoyed his nuggets and curly fries.

I would also like to add the staff we're friendly, accommodating, and the views over Christchurch was a delight.

All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Everything's lovely- fresh flavors, amazing breads, beautiful view. Service is what makes it stand out though -front of house and kitchen are all terrific, warm and friendly people with big smiles!
