Ginger Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Franklin

Today, as we often do when in Pukekohe, we lunched at Ginger. Until today, we have always been delighted with the quality of the food and the value. They do a lunch special of curry of your choice, well presented rice and naan bread. The impact of COVID and of the insane inflationary overspending of our present government have driven up prices for everybody, but Ginger still represented good value. Until today, that is. My wife was not hungry enough for her naan bread, so said we would share just one today. Nothing else was changed.

The rip-off artist on the counter charged us full price, not the advertised lunch special rate. I didn't notice until my debit card had been read in. Hey, I said it's 36 dollars, not 41. No, he said, because you didn't take it unchanged, it wasn't the special as advertised. So I have to charge full price for every component.

I asked are you saying that taking less of one component (Connie's naan bread) costs five dollars more? Yes, he said, because we have to make it specially. And your transaction is already processed, so I can't change it. He shrugged.

We will never go back again. Ginger Restaurant, today lost two formerly loyal...

Highly recommend Ginger Pukekohe! We have eaten there many times over the past 12 years. And every time, the staff have been friendly, welcoming & professional. We love that it is a small family run business, seeing the same friendly faces welcome you inside, means you feel valued & appreciated. We usually do takeaways but do dine in occasionally. This last time we dined in. The food is simply THE BEST Indian food! 2 coeliacs to accommodate can prove to be a challenge at most restaurants. But not at Ginger. No problems at all. Customer service was awful...ordered wine..they completely forgotten. .then asked them again they took 20 minutes to bring on the table.. asked for kids food...absolutely clueless...Plates were not served but stater menu was on the table before the plates..starter was not even finished & they asked us to order Mains..it was 7:50 p.m..btw..need some hospitality training I guess...just try Orbit or Cassia or Portofino or oh Calcutta or ambrosia or little india or 1947...just next to nothing customer service with delicious food to match..
