A visit to The Corner Café on this windy Sunday afternoon in Hamilton was a busy one, and I’m glad we made a reservation via Facebook Messenger, although part of our group couldn't make it.
Here’s how we rated the dishes:
Oreo Milkshake – 5/5: Perfect presentation with crunchy Oreo bits throughout. A real treat.
Banana Cream Pie Milkshake – 4/5: Creamy with a subtle sweetness, not too overpowering. The biscuit on top was a nice touch. Refreshing and enjoyable.
Yellow Super Smoothie – 4.5/5: Fresh and vibrant, with cinnamon adding a nice enhancement to the flavour. However, if you’re not a fan of cinnamon, this might not be for you. The coconut flakes were a great addition.
Fried Chicken – 4/5: Tasty, crunchy, and juicy. The salad was fresh but had a slight bitterness that the sauce helped balance. The batter coating on the chicken was spot on.
Cheese Burger with Aioli, Ketchup, Mustard & Pickles – 4.5/5: Thick, juicy, and bursting with fresh flavours. The bun was soft, with the right amount of sauce, mustard, and cheese. The gherkin and onion added a nice tang. The side of Shoestring Fries were fresh, hot, crunchy, and the herb mix took them to the next level.
Eggs Benedict with Magills Thick Cut Bacon – 2.5/5: Smaller portion than expected, with just two small pieces of bacon. The eggs were perfectly cooked with runny yolks, and the creamy hollandaise sauce was well-executed. The focaccia was tasty and a bit crispy without being oily, but overall, it didn’t quite meet expectations.
French Toast with Orange Yoghurt and Date Syrup – 5/5: The standout dish. Pillow-soft with great flavour, perfectly paired with creamy yoghurt. A definite...
Read moreWhilst the new group of shops out on Borman Rd may look like nothing special, hidden away in the Corner, this cafe is a real gem. Brand new building with polished concrete floors, but quite simple crisp decor that’s not trying too hard. The tables are also nicely spaced out so you don’t feel crowded. The menu is not extensive, and you won’t find a Big Breakfast on this list, but you have a good selection of well thought out items with their particular twist. For instance, the eggs bene came with thick cut bacon, buttery hollandaise and butternut purée. We also tried the ‘smashed avo’ which had picked vegetables between the bread and the avo - unexpected but it worked deliciously well. All well executed meals that were a perfect portion size. The coffee used Grey Roast, and was hood quality. The staff were very accommodating of a 19 month old, and had just the right level of engagement. And, as there is no pavement seating you’ll be unlikely to see a pack of cyclists there… Well worth a visit - get in while...
Read moreWent for a work meeting. I’m not a local so it took me a bit of time to find the spot and to get a parking spot due to lots of reserved spaces. It’s a developing area so lots of roadworks didn’t help but that’s just a me problem. It’s a very typical cafe. I had a long black and a latte both were satisfactory the latte art was very cool. Service was ok and time to get food out was also ok. The Eggs Benedict that I had was good. It had a good flow of customers- I felt it was a bit squeezed with seating. Overall I have no complaints at all everything was ok. Not the most amazing place but nothing bad...
