This place is a diamond in the rough. The place may feel a little dated and knocked around the edges, but the fish is some of the freshest of any takeaways in the Auckland area. The reason for the freshness is that they are actually a commercial seafood supplier, but run a takeaways as a side business. This place is only open in the evenings and is very popular with local families always eating at the tables. I would personally recommend my favourite the #4 meal deal - 3 delicious battered snapper and a scoop of chips, perfect size to share with a friend. Really affordable prices as well as having meal combos for even better value. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. No credit cards accepted here, only cash or eftpos. I spent $200 here expecting quality kaimoana, and what a disappointment. I ordered kina, pāua, fried bread, four boil ups, and one punnet of oysters. Out of all that, the oysters were rotten/off – completely inedible.

For a business that charges premium prices, serving seafood that’s off is disgraceful. It shows zero care for customers, zero pride in their product, and zero standards. Anyone can fry bread and throw boil up together, but when it comes to oysters – your reputation should stand on freshness. Instead, you’ve made yourselves look like a corner fish shop with no quality control.

If this is how Toby’s Seafood Massey operates, they’re not worth the money, not worth the trust, and not worth recommending. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere, because here you’ll just end up...

I don't know where the Toby's in Red Hill is some of the people I've read about the bad reviews, But we went to Toby's on the 20th of January around 4:30pm It was amazing the fish and chips and raw muscles were fresh and beautiful to eat and the service was great. And it was very cheap. And we got more what we expected to get. And they don't serve you with the wight paper wrapping that you've seen in some of these photos that people are putting on here it's in the Toby boxes!!! even the fried breed don't even look like the photos that these people are giving bad comments.
