I loved General Public and, in the interest of supporting local, I have tried the rebranded “The Haven” under new ownership three times - unfortunately it’s been a disappointment each time.
To start with the good - the staff are friendly, the venue is spacious, and the opening hours seem to have improved (it seems to be open more often and more reliably than under previous ownership).
Now, the disappointments: To be brutally honest, the food is subpar - limited menu, strange pairings (eg baked salmon + fries + hollandaise + very garlicky slaw) and sad presentation. The fries themselves were good though.
The tables are usually left uncleared and uncleaned for a long time; each time I’ve been, I had to ask someone to wipe the table. I’ve even walked away when there was no clean table.
The decor is a bit naff, which is neither here nor there, but some of their furnishing is just plain impractical - for example, the outside seating has been replaced by hanging egg chairs (not sure how anyone is supposed to eat/drink in those).
I think the high review score on this place must be inherited from the previous General Public era. Sad to see if...

At first glance nothing has really changed in terms of the look of the place. Service will require improvement as I had to ask for the menu as well as napkins and water. Ordered the big breakfast which sounded great on the menu but came nothing close to it. It had half of a tomato which was crushed, three tiny sausages, two round pieces of some sort of bacon which wasn't good, overcooked scrambled eggs and at the bottom of the plate was a pile of reheated frozen vegetables. Taste was bland and under-seasoned. I expected much better for $25. I also ordered an ice latte which is an espresso with milk with ice but somehow they made it with cream and turned out to be some kind of shake instead. Read moreThis is my rating due to poor customer service. My mum did order pizza from here and said it was yum but this later on the day. I called asked about their pizza choices. The guy who attended my call and helped me sounded nice. So i placed the an order at 6:30pm. He advised me okay maam it will take 15mins. Im not an idiot so ofcourse i said 20mins il go down. Ended up sending hubby down,he said when he walked in(didnt appear to be busy)This is 6:45 ,2 employees were on their phones and told hubby sorry we havent started the order give us another 7-10mins. So we did come to 7:10 we waited still wasnt ready. ??? Hubby walked out and they said ready in 1 minute ? Nah were good wil take our money somewhere else where our time as a consumer is valued!!
