Ugly Dumpling — Restaurant in Māngere-Ōtāhuhu

Been here a handful of times and always had a good experience food and service wise. Unfortunately we came in for a quick lunch visit (Thursday 6th Jan 2022 12.50pm) although the service once again was great I think this visit gave me food poisoning as I have been back and forth to the bathroom since last night and most of today. I have not been able to keep anything down and your your establishment was my first meal of the day so I'm not sure what else it could be. Me and my wife wiped our hands with antibacterial wipes and then sanitised before starting on our meal - we did have leftovers which we asked for a takeaway container. My wife though said this morning when she took it out of the fridge to reheat she opened the lid and a off smell came from it. As she smelt the leftovers inside it definitely smelt off (which makes me think what you served was not fresh) and may have been sitting in your cooler and then bought out and reheated or fried. Fresh food regardless if leftovers should not smell off off if kept in fridge a few hours later. Although this was a one off for me I hope this has not happened to...

Tidy clean premises featuring europeanised Chinese food. My dumpling soup came quickly, featuring 6 tasty dumplings in a clear soup with Bok Choy and a sprinkling of spring onions over egg noodles. The Ugly Burger was a couple of pork belly slices in a bag bun with carrot, cucumber, red onion and baby spinach with a hoisin type sauce. A little up there at $5.90 but ok compared to other takeaway offering in this area and given the high quality of premises. The steam pork dim sum was large and flavoursome - more bread than usual but still satisfying. 5pm on a Friday night waiting to pick up mum from Airport. Nice place to have a meal while waiting for people to arrive (beats paying for all that time on parking).

I had a small bowl of self selection of meat, noodle or rice and vegetables. I had BBQ pork, cost $14.90. Nothing wow - it was average.

I also ordered a bowl of prawn noodle soup. Okay, first time I've struggle to finish any soup from an Asian restaurant - the broth was very salty. Cost $19.99.

Plenty of free parking, 2min drive to Auckland International Airport. Tidy, spacious and simple decor.
