I wish there were Negative stars.
Poor communication; zero curtesy.
We had a very early hour arrival (1 am) at Auckland, flight was few mins late and with 4 bags and 2 young kids and car seats, we followed their directions to use yellow bus from Auckland airport.(Approx 20 mins wait at airport) Loaded all the luggage and 2 tired kids, we reached the Hotel, the front desk staff asked my name, checked my ID and then acted he is doing something in system for long 10-15 Mins, so by the time they did their thing, we loaded the bags in Hotel trolley to save on time.(Not a word from staff by this time)
There were other guests who were served by a senior staff as soon as they were told the hotel is overbooked and they are being moved to other Hotel, this guy who was acting busy with our room allocation just makes hand gesture pointing to us and them (no words, no curtesy) (he meant "we are doing same with you") . bus arrived in another 10 mins or so. His boss asked so he pretended to help with our luggage but he just walked with us, (and I think took the trolley back) I with help of my wife and Yellow Bus Driver loaded the bags back in the next shuttle,
To our Surprise, the bus did not drop at the next hotel door like were were told. Driver said he was only meant to Drop us back at the airport and were were supposed to take all the luggage and find our way to next hotel so now almost after an hour we were back to where we started from at the airport. finding airport trolleys, loading bags, dragging kids, finding our way to second airport hotel through all the construction sites and pedestrian detours. This really had impact on our next day of trip.
A simple communication to confirm our arrival of pre-booking, advance communication redirecting us to different hotel could have made our first hour and half in Auckland better. I am NEVER staying...
Read moreMy wife and I arrive around 5:30pm. We walked to the hotel from the Auckland international terminal. Carrying a small backpack, and pulling a medium sized rolling carryon, it took us around 25 minutes. Easy for us. Since the weather was nice for the following morning, we walked the same route back to the terminal. But I did see a machine in the lobby area of the hotel to purchase a bus ticket on a bus that makes the rounds in that area, stopping at the airport too. Check in was easy. Our room was on the 6th floor, overlooking a nearby parking lot, and small mall area. There is something of a breakfast area, with coffee machines, adjacent to the front desk. Also a kids play area. There is no actual hot breakfast served, but I believe for a couple of hours in the morning you can get some dry cereal, and milk, to at least have a quick bite. Our room was indeed small. Probably one of the smallest rooms we have ever stayed in. And we have stayed in several of these types of hotels/rooms in Europe. Cozy, and you adjust. The air conditioning was a bit of work, but we managed to once again adjust. Otherwise the room was fine. It was clean, and it smelled good. The ladies working at the front desk were very nice. There is a restaurant at the front of the hotel, and there is perhaps 2 places at the back of the building to eat something. Not open when we walked around back. And there is a grocery store across the way, and a couple of fast food restaurants nearby. For breakfast we stopped at the nearby Hollywood bakery and got a couple of hot items, and some coffee. Yummy, and at a decent price. We did have a nice 1 night stay. If the price was right, I would consider staying...
Read moreThe positive thing is the bed is very comfortable. Otherwise it has been dreadful. I was expecting a room like I had at the sydney airport counterpart a month ago, with a desk and chair. Instead I got room 215, with 2 single beds and practically no space to move. With a back injury and no ordinary chair to sit on, I can't stay in there except to sleep. I've only just found out that they have those other rooms here. I can't remember the online booking, but there was no way to know just how cramped this sort of room is. If there are 2 of you, stay clear. There's nowhere to put luggage, only the spare bed if you're solo. To get to the kettle involves leaning down and trying not to whack your head on the TV. Best advice, put the kettle in the bathroom. And if you have any sort of injury, double check the room in advance. I don't think anywhere should provide rooms that even fit and healthy people would be so cramped in. Even more frustrating is having to pay so much more than in Oz for the misery (hotel rates in NZ are horrendous everywhere). Ontop of it all, I got a dodgy thermostat and couldn't get the temperature below 20 which is very unpleasant. A staff member had a look for me but couldn't fix it. She brought me a portable fan which was very good, and that helps. If it wasn't such an miserable room it would be fine. I've booked a late checkout tomorrow as well because of my flight time, and I will probably leave early because the airport will be more comfortable. I am currently writing this review in the foyer so I can sit on a proper chair and...
