Stopped by here on a Sunday evening on my way back from Auckland. Thought I'd give it a shot, as it was very busy -- a promising sign. Wasn't expecting much, as it looks like a modest takeaway joint with a few tables inside. Well, let me tell you my friends, the food was delicious! I ordered chicken fried rice, stir fried pork, ginger beef hot plate, chicken sweetcorn soup and wonton soup ---washed down with Jasmine tea. The portion sizes were generous. At first I thought I had ordered too much but I couldn't stop eating, it was that good. On leaving, I felt a little guilty, as the meal was worth far more than I paid for it. An excellent deal and overall a superb experience. The food is some of the best Chinese food I have had. It's made in the traditional way, with impeccable attention to the proper heat and meticulous timing, and well-balanced flavours. Who is the mystery chef? They should be given a medal. The service was friendly and professional too. My only gripe is it took about 40 minutes for the food to arrive. I suggest they get a helper and put the prices up by at least 20 percent... but these are minor quips. Highly...
Read moreBeen here twice, and was a great experience in ways I did not expect. The food and value are 5 star but it a popular place, and Tony the cook prepares thing the old way.. - so wait times can be longer than some are used to, lso the Decor is 1970 's NZ chic the style is bound to be highly desirable in a year or two but some folks might not see the appeal just yet. For me the highlight was the locals For example yy hot plate created enough steam to fill the place like a tasty Sauna, people noticed and were happy to comment, I greatly enjoyed the 2 ladies who cross examined a young lady " is that your new man? Is he good to you? You make sure now , remember my phone number if you have trouble - put it on speed dial, reply laughing Yes...
Read moreI am sorry, but how can you do such a disgrace to the cooking. It has to be one of the worst place I ever had a dinner. We spend $55 for 2. It was tasteless. The pork won tong soup with "a bit of shrimp" was actually full of shrimp won tong, the pork, was some sort of a mysterious something. The dumpling were gross. It is one of my favorite food usually and honestly it was filled with some flovoured dough. The won tong soup was, i swear a packet of 2 minutes noodles. It was full of MSG. Please do yourself a favour, quit cooking and start doing a job you like and enjoy. Customers, do yourself a favour, pick an other place or make a toasty at home. Never been so disappointed by a...
