Firebird — Restaurant in Manawatū-Whanganui

The ambiance is kinda shabby chic, which is alright. We ordered mushroom & halloumi pizza and shrimp & cream cheese pizza. The waiting time was almost one hour! I could see the chef (without any coverage of his pretty long hair) opening the pizza oven three times until the pizza was served. Not only was the mushroom pizza badly overcooked (slow baked pizza!) and therefore hard, the mushrooms were black and bitter, means the shelf life had certainly expired and the halloumi was close to be burned. The pizza with the shrimps was tasteless and due to the cream cheese on the pizza base mushy. And the waitresses ... Dresses that are so short that they barely cover the bum may attract a certain clientele, but it's not really professional. And the long, hanging, stringy hair of the waitresses was very unhygenic. Went to Firebird tonight and man… we didn‘t get disappointed.

We were searching and waiting for a good place to go to in the evening in Levin. Only option in the past, was to drive all the way to Palmy.

We had a classic margherita pizza+ firebird special pizza, some chilli oil on the side and 2 homemade elderflower lemonades. It was beautiful, came quick and was not pricy. I‘m fuzzy with pizzas 🍕. So I‘m more than grateful that I got what I was waiting and craving for: A really good homemade pizza!

Beautiful atmosphere with music from a DJ. Cosy, spacious, comfortable dining area with good vibes and very friendly staff+ owners. We even played some chess while waiting.

It's sort of shabby chic - hope that's the style they are going for - that makes for a comfortable eating experience.

The menu was mainly pizza, which was fine with me, and the three pizza's our group had were large, tasty and enjoyable. Slightly on the top end of expensive, especially when compared to chain restaurants, but the quality far exceed them, so worth it in the long run.

They have music on quite regularly so if you want a quiet meal then this might not be the place for you.
