Mills Bay Mussels - Tasting Room & Eatery — Restaurant in Marlborough

We drove specifically via havelock to chch to eat at Mills Bay, unfortunately we did not end up eating. The food looked good. We ordered after 10mins I thought I’d check to see if we had time for a stroll, the lady behind the counter said your order would be 20-30mins away, we went for a walk, returning after 20 mins- I checked in with the girls and they indicated the grilled mussels where being cooked, another 10mins went by, I went back and checked again, the girls indicated that the order had not even be started. We could not wait any longer 40mins all up, the girls refunded our money, and offered some free cold mussels- thanks. It would have been good to have been told on ordering there was a long wait, there seemed to be a lot of staff wondering around doing not alot whilst two young girls trying there...

Went here yesterday and got crumbed mussels and fries. So looking forward to it as I’ve been wanting mussels for a while now. I chose the six crumbed mussels and shoestring fries. They came out looking good with some salad and I chowed down. Well, I was disappointed. It was soooooooo salty I couldn’t finish them. Gave one to my husband and he is the salt KING and loves it on most things but even he couldn’t finish one mussel. The fries were loaded with salt too, literally loaded. The aioli and tartare sauce were delicious but we couldn’t stomach the remaining mussels or fries. Could’ve ordered something else but didn’t want to risk the same thing happening. I’m saying that, the girl behind the counter was lovely and friendly and welcoming! A nice wee spot next...

Yet another top score spot for Chasing a Plate. This place has stunning food. What a beautiful lunch in the sun. By far the way best mussels in Havelock - (the mussel capital of the world). We had the tasting platter and grilled garlic mussels. Every mouthful was delicious and we can't wait to return. Thai curry mussels were our favourite - but all were amazing. The ONLY place to get mussels in Havelock - Mills Bay!! ... and their FISH is totally amazing - have had better chips - but their fish is simply superb!! Mussel chowder is superb. Only downside - Seating for customers is limited to a few really uncomfortable metal stools. A few outdoor tables and chairs would make a...
