Spirit Of India — Restaurant in North Island

Reading the reviews we were looking forward to our dinner here tonight, but unfortunately we were dissapointed. The decor is run down and could do with some TLC. The Lamb Seekh Kebab was on the colder side of warm, we also ordered chicken noodles which had next to no flavour. The curries were tasty, however the portion size was tiny and what you would expect to get if you ordered during a lunch special, would not pay full price and definitely not worth $18 for a curry especially for what was served up, luckily we had booked a first table. We had a bit of curry and two triangles of naan left over but they would not let us take it away as it was apparently the rules of first table (Never came across that before - I could understand if we ordered more food just to takeaway, but these were just some left overs) such a waste of food that we had paid for but just couldnt finish. While there was a slightly chaotic start to the evening, this was a fantastic experience, and highly recommended. We picked Spirit of India for our wedding anniversary, and had a full meal (soup, main course, rice and naan bread, as well as drinks). We were not disappointed! The food was amazing - plenty of flavours, both blended and stand out. My main meal was slightly spicy, but not overpowering - I could taste all the different spices - and the chicken was wonderfully juicy. Definitely recommend the chicken and vegetable soup - so many flavours, and the vegetables were a great blend, including some crunchy (not over-cooked and mushy like you normally get); and a delicious peppery base. Very disappointing. Our very first order was done incorrectly. 2 different Naan breads packed together and they had forgotten to give us Garlic Roti bread. We drive back to the restaurant for them to cook another Garlic Naan instead of a Garlic Roti. Got them to cook a Garlic Roti that does not even resemble a Garlic Roti but another Naan bread. Arrive back home to now a cold meal and the meal was average. Very disappointed that we paid $52.50 for meals that were not satisfactory. No offer of a discount for the inconvenience caused. Place was not busy which is another huge sign of a place not being that great. I hate having to write reviews like this when a business is starting out new. But do better.
