staying overnight in wellington, we came across Maudrick Homemade food online and gave the brother a call to ask how to order because there wasn't much info on ordering.
he said usually you would order in advance and agree on a time for pick up and said there was still enough time to order at about 6:30 and we picked up an hour later. He also offered to deliver to us in the cbd for a extra charge but we drove out to pick up. very friendly and great communication - texting us when it was time for us to come
we are new to African kai but have been very interested in trying fufu, so we asked for a recommendation for 2 people and ended up getting the lamb and spinach and the peanut lamb with fufu. it cost 70 total which is around the amount we would usually spend on most other kai so very reasonable.
the food is delicious. I cannot recommend fufu enough, it's a delicate with a nice consistency and goes so well dipping in the lamb sauce. if you're māori you'll like it 😂 it's kind of like doughboy.
the spinach and lamb is so tasty and the spinach reminds me of puha. lamb has bone pieces which adds to the flavor.
the peanut lamb is really good. I'm not usually a big peanut flavor eater but this was my favorite for dipping the fufu.
na reira, e te kaitunu he mihi nui ki a koe! this meal was delicious and we will definitely try some more next time we're in...
Read moreThe hype around Fufu & Egusi has been growing strong for a while now - especially in my cravings. Yet isn’t so easily found here in Wellington. I came across Maudricks Homemades via a well-received TikTok and that is a blessing for this of this culture living here, needing their home cooked comfort food. I’ve got no experience when it comes to Ghanaian 🇬🇭 food whatsoever, so went it with no expectations. We ordered Fufu + Egusi, Fufu + Peanut Soup, Okra + Semolina. We’re so glad to have diversified our palates with African food! You can taste it was made with Love. There is so much flavour to each dish, we found ourselves studying what was in each dish while eating cause it was so new but so delicious and the portions are well priced. I would have Semolina over Fufu any day as it’s more lighter on the pallet. The husband was very open and kind upon pick up and provided us with a free bag of PuffPuffs (which were so similar to our island Panikekes but layered differently with an added flavour) for waiting an extra 5minutes. I would definitely recommend this family’s food for anyone wanting that fix of African Cuisine. Thank You Maudricks Homemade Food, for keeping your culture alive in...
Read moreAmazing spread!! I had the prawn Jollof rice, Wakye( rice and white eye beans) Spinach Sauce, Tomato sauce and fish chilli sauce. My favourite in particular was the wakye and spinach sauce with an egg. Everything was fresh& made from scratch! I loved the heat it was fragrant and warm. Don't be alarmed by how much oil may be on the surface- it's to help seal and keep it fresh for longer!!! Just yummy!
Fred was warm and welcoming with awesome communication. He was Friendly and direct. Especially as a pescatarian/DF eater. I’d recommend reaching out if you are eager to expand your experience in African Cuisine as the presence of African food is not very big in Wellington.
Thank you Fred and...
