As someone from California—where we take serious pride in our tacos and nachos—I have to say, The Secret Garden blew me away. The food here is absolutely outstanding. Every bite was full of flavor and heart, and honestly, it gave some of my favorite Cali spots a run for their money!
But it’s not just about the food. The whole vibe of this place is something special. The ambiance is laid-back, lush, and totally unique—within minutes I felt relaxed and right at home. There are so many cozy corners, artistic details, and little nooks in the garden to explore. It’s like stepping into a hidden world.
The design and energy reminded me so much of my travels in Bali—the same warm, creative, soulful feel that makes you want to stay for hours. Every time I’ve been, there’s been something cool happening—whether it’s live music or some kind of event, there’s always a great community vibe.
And let’s talk about the owners and staff: absolute gems. So welcoming, kind, and clearly passionate about creating a space that feels good to be in.

Just 1.5 hours from Auckland, this enchanting Mexican-style culinary utopia was more than just a restaurant—it was an experience!
Two adults and one excited child embarked on a gastronomic adventure that felt like a fiesta for our taste buds. From the not-to-be-missed nachos bowl with meat and sour cream, to the piña colada mocktail which felt like a tropical vacation in a glass, every bite was a mini celebration.
Our mornings were made divine with spicy hot chocolate and custard lemon curd scones—true breakfast of champions!
As the sun set, we enjoyed mouthwatering tacos, quesadillas (Chasadia for the adventurous spellers), and burritos, all while live music provided the perfect backdrop.
The locals, brimming with joy, added a lively vibe that made us feel right at home.

So my husband and I decided we would do takeaway. There wasn’t much on the menu. I decided for the chickpea and broccolini salad. For $9.50, I expected more than 10 pieces of spinach, 15 chickpeas, some slivered almonds, herbs, and 5 pieces of burnt but not cooked brocolli (not brocollini) in a cup barely bigger than a regular coffee cup. I was so disappointed. I should have walked away, but I’d already paid and was shocked.
I also had an almond flat white. That was pretty horrible too.
The 2 stars is for the beautiful cafe surroundings they have made. I should take the star away though for the two staff members passing rude comments about the previous customer which we clearly heard whilst they were making the coffee.
I have no idea how this place got 4.6 stars, it’s not for the...
