I brought my elderly Mother up from Hamilton to come to the Waipu Markets with me. After looking around we just wanted to sit and rest and have a nice "cup" of tea and an eat. My Mother paid $21 for 2x cups of tea and 2x Apricot Danish pastries. The young lady serving Mum put both our pastries on 1 plate which I thought was strange. We waited and waited. Finally I asked Mum if she got a table number and she said they just asked for her name, she said she wanted milk and sugar for me. Next thing they call her name with 2x paper cups of tea with lids. I said to the Barista we wanted cups of tea as we are having it here. He just said we only do take away cups. I asked about all the cups hanging on the wall behind him and said the are for our locals. I asked to speak to the manager or owner. She once again explained to us they do takeaway cups only (think of all the wastage) and this was due to Covid. I said tea isn't the same in a paper cup. She asked if we wanted a refund but then said she may be able to find us some tea cups. Meanwhile we went to eat our Danish pastries and they were disgusting. Very dry and almost had a paper taste and texture, definitely NOT fresh. I couldn't eat it. Mum didn't enjoy her's either. We told the owner the Danishs were old and dry. she said they were delivered today. My parents owned a bakery, we know what fresh is. She asked if Mum wanted something else but my mother politely declined. She ate half of it. The owner went again so I bought a pink tart which I paid $5 for - I should have been given it free. I had to wait again just to get it when the young server could have just put it on a plate (the cabinet was just below where she stood at the till). Meanwhile the owner never came back to ask if we were ok. Whilst the tea was nice the food and service were not. I felt sorry for my Mum, a single pensioner who paid for it. Wish we just got the refund. Will not...
Read moreThe most incredible experience that I have had in a cafe thus far in New Zealand, a lovely setting interior and exterior. Staff were immediately accommodating, welcoming and friendly even though it was packed! So refreshing!! The choices of sandwiches were impossible to choose between, fresh bread - focaccia and perfect pairings of toppings. As someone who is plant-based, this was a dream. My partner who is not, could not stop raving about the flavours, and complexity of the food. Insane at how cheap these delicious sandwiches were priced at. Cannot recommend this cafe enough, the staff, food, everything, was so lovely....
Read moreLovely Food both savoury and sweet. Both Vegetarian and Vegan options in the form of toasties and sandwiches or pizzas. Baked (which sell well as per photo) as well as Raw cakes too as well as some local products for sale around the cafe. Pizzas are surprisingly good given that they are not what you may expect and they have a generous topping. The hot drinks - oat flat white is very good and you can get 50c off with your own cup. Staff are lovely and nice range of seating - booths and small tables inside, picnic...
