I have just eaten here for the third time and I have to say that the food here is top notch. It is pretty challenging to find decent Indian food in NZ but these guys have got it right. We enquired which of the dishes on the menu were vegan and the chef came out to chat with us twice and advise us on vegan options. We will definitely be back, thanks guys.
Mmmmm ..... I really feel I should update this review as we recently revisited Shiraz and were very disappointed (August 2023). I suspect that they may have changed ownership as they have started charging for poppadoms which were previously free. Come on guys, poppadoms are so cheap and they were a welcome nibble before the food. The food certainly wasn't up to the same standard and really wasn't how I described in my previous review. We ate there on a Saturday night, the place would normally be buzzing with a constant stream of takeaway orders being dished out. However, this Saturday, the restaurant was almost deserted with hardly any takeaway pick ups. Not sure what has happened here but we won't...
Read moreI hate to do this but after supporting our local Indian restaurant for the past few years, I feel I have to add a few home truths. Often our orders are incorrect when paying extra for delivery and then being told next order will be credited and it never is. Not only that but food has been hit and miss of late. Recently ordered a vegetarian curry only to be majorily disappointed. The vegetables were of the frozen variety and not that many of them to boot. I understand the cost of food has gone up but I can rustle up a curry at home for a fraction of the cost. I had ordered a medium curry and after 2 forkfuls and almost burning my stomach, the food was very ' hot' chilli. My partner tasted it and immediately went red in the face. The curry was inedible and sadly ended up in the bin. The cost for the wasteful curry was way over $20. The lamb dish had 6 cubes of meat in it! Seems when you eat in, standard is slightly better but take aways are inconsistent. I'm going to start supporting other...
Read moreSuddenly Dargaville has several options for Indian food but Shiraz remains our firm favourite. Why? For a start the food is reliably good and we've never been disappointed. There's a wide range to choose from, including our go-to choice, the vegetarian menu. As we sometimes have children in tow, we find the kids meals and especially the availability of pizzas a big plus. But perhaps the biggest yes-factor is the venue itself which makes for a relaxing lunch or dinner and the availability of beer and wine means that it's also good for romantic dinners and office lunches. And despite the pleasant atmosphere and it being licensed the food prices are very reasonable. Shiraz also has the option of a thali lunch which makes for an interesting change from the norm and gives you several tasting options on a platter. We probably eat there 50 per cent of the time and get takeaways the other 50 percent. We also find their takeaway portions nicely filling. We...
