Bayview Licensed Restaurant — Restaurant in Te Hiku Community

We made a reservation for 5:30 on 04/01/2025, my daughter & her partner arrived 2 min early the owner rudely asked are the rest of you coming. Admittedly we were exactly 4 min late, we arrived they did not direct us to a seat, we saw my daughter and sat down, we were then told to hurry up and order as we were late. He and his wife were very rude and when our lovely waitress who through no fault and purely accidentally spilt a nuclear hot espresso that came with my dessert, on my mother, they did not offer an apology, instead when we went to them at the bar to asked them to let the waitress know my mother was a bit burnt but okay, he said oh she will get a good telling off, then said we won’t charge for the dessert. The food was sub par, I had to use my son’s steak knife to cut through my cardboard chicken schnitzel. Seafood defrosted, not fresh at all. Seafood chowder average at best. Don't order the chowder or the seafood fettuccine.

Owners forgot about us several times during the night. Didn't take our food order for around 45mins, then told us bluntly they forgot we were there.

You've been warned - only sit on the far outside table if you're keen to have kamikaze beetles and moths flying at you all night and getting in your food, hair and clothes. Owners thought this was quite funny when we let them know. We changed tables halfway through our mains and it didn't really help.

I have never received such rude service or felt so unwelcome at a restaurant in my life, and from the owners at that. After being chastised by both the man and his equally as awful wife, and being told we would have actually been served if we had booked (I had tried to earlier that day, but no one answered the phone), my partner and I decided to walk out. I see why no one at our accommodation mentioned this as a possible place to go… Bidz Takeaways or Kaitaia. We ended up taking their advice!
