The location is very good with the beach being just across the road. Has nice places to chill out in the front hammocks or back vineyard covered deck (cute). Really didn't see the staff much at all, in fact our greeting tour was exceptionally brief and she never asked over the next three days if we liked it or had question or made any local recommendations...which is pretty odd for a hostess. Could not cool the old house down at night- open windows and get eaten by mosquitos, no air movement at least in the upstairs room we had. Not a fan of how they have convereted this cool old house- trying to squeeze bathrooms in really odd places- like right off the "living room" so to take a shower you go by everyone on their laptops, or reading, and no sound barriers as it is a old house, other's off the dinning room and then outside off the deck- not enough bathrooms for how many people they are trying to fill their beds- searching around in the morning for a open bathroom is not ideal when on vacation! Typical backpackers kitchen with no vents over the cooking areas, a bit tight on kitchen space compared to most backpackers. Someone rated this one of the best in NZ....guessing they have not stayed at many other places then. It is quite from human noise and charming with the big back deck picnic table that is covered by lattice with grapes growing throughout. Would be nice to get a good nights sleep if cooler (guess I'll have to come...
Read moreThis hostel is one of the most beautiful hostels I ever stayed in. It is directly opposite the beginning of the ninety miles beach and some of the rooms have an amazing ocean view. The whole interior design felt more like a hotel than a hostel with wooden beds and modern, clean bathrooms. The big garden has a lot of places to relax with a book, like hammocks and comfy wooden chairs. It is also a great surfspot and the hostel offers boards and wetsuits for rent. A beautiful big wooden table on a deck in the backyard invites you to sit down and enjoy good food and get to know the other guest. Covered by a natural roof of grapevines it also shelters from rain and cooler nights. The guests are invited to help themselves to the herb garden in the backyard and enjoy the fresh flavours New Zealand has to offer. If you want to relax or see Cape Reinga, where the two oceans meet, I would definitely recommend staying in...
Read moreAfter nearly 2.5 years of traveling all around New Zealand, from top to bottom and back again, I'm here to say that Endless Summer Lodge is my absolute favorite place that I've stayed! It is truly an incredible hidden gem and not to be missed. The house is a gorgeous and charming historic kauri building and the atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed. I enjoyed countless chats with other guests and our hosts alike. Whether you're going for a surf down the road at the beautiful Shipwreck Bay, lounging with a book in one of the hammocks in the front yard, playing fetch with the resident dog, having a morning coffee on the front patio or a glass of wine out back under the twinkling lights, or falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean waves, I can all but guarantee that you won't spend a second feeling like you're anywhere other than paradise. 11/10 loved my time at Endless Summer Lodge and would stay again in...
