The General — Restaurant in Waikato

When arrived looking through the menu go to order and sorry we don't have this or that because yesterday was a busy day and sold out. It's a piss poor excuse how hard is it after close of business to check stock levels for the next day and go to supermarket and purchase anything needed urgently. Anyway ordered some food of what was available. Coffee in a takeaway cup and a smoothie sat down at the table. Coffee came out was in a dine in cup. Sure honest mistake that's fine. Then 2 of 5 meals came out. Waitress went to fresh choice to get ice for a cold drink that was ordered and the chef had completed the other 3 meals but nothing brought out to the table until waitress got back. Food came out cold wedges undercooked. Ordered 3 hash browns for $3 each thinking they would be a genuine hash brown instead recieved 3 little tatter tots. Noticed crumbs in the cracks of the table. And then had a scone that was forgotten about and my apple and fejoa smoothie I ordered came out and ended up being lemon and lime some weird thing that wasn't even on the drink menu that tasted like a lemon based cleaning product. Extremely disappointed in the service, pricing and proportions sizes of the meals. Both my partner and I started to feel sick before we got back home in waiuku. Cafe has great potential. But badly run and poor hygiene. Would of expected alot better for a 4.3 star...

Nov. 2022 Returned here based on previous favorable experiences at this cafe. While all the reference to Covid-19 have been removed and there were several tables occupied ( a good sign) I was disappointed to receive what we perceived as rather slow and disjointed service and a tea cup that was provided in an unclean state which was replaced when pointed out to the staff. While everyone was seated including those outside, the wind speed outside rose suddenly and toppled an umbrella from its stand. Seeing the potential risk for personal injury to people and property two of us (patrons) retrieved the umbrella and secured it to its original location. Strangely, at no point did I see the staff or management appear to see that all was OK. As a consequence I have marked this cafe rating down from 5 to 3 stars, based on service and cleanliness of crockery. The food was satisfactory and while the food / coffee service was slow I'm not sure that my friends would want to return. Sorry! (Question to management; why was there someone selling what looked like Herbal remedies in the doorway of the cafe?) Sept 2022 I have been here on two occasions, and have enjoyed the coffee and food that was available in the prepared food cabinet. The staff are pleasant to deal with and importantly, the facilities were kept clean. Would recommend the cafe to everyone and will call in again...

We went for coffee and a cake and were greeted by the sweetest girl who took our orders , she was very friendly and smiling and right away we felt welcomed. We ordered coffees and a carrot cake for me and a cheese scone for him, both were exceptionally good, the cake was lush, moist and very carroty and the scone was fresh and cheesy, both had lots of love in them. A cool house music was on , a nice change from the boring music elsewhere and we loved it. The only criticism we had was the lack of atmosphere and ambience which can be easily rectified. The space is very big and there is a lot of light flowing from the many windows and doors so the bare white walls feel sterile and cold. A dark color on some of the walls, such as the one they have in the toilets will bring the walls in and will create coziness. Few nice big plants and the same dark color on the green posts inside are all that is needed. By far the best service and amazing pastries would bring us back. Hopefully next time some attention to the decor would complete the...
