Cafe Ole — Restaurant in Wellington

We visited here this afternoon and although my sandwich was fine, there were other things we observed that were not great. I needed the bathroom, and it was filthy. The mat on the concrete floor was dirty and stained and should be thrown out! The basin had not seen a cleaning product for a very long time. A man came into the cafe and had several items on a plate, only to be told once he’d paid for them that they were closing at 2.30pm so the lady told him he wouldn’t be able to eat things fast enough, promptly shoved it all in a bag and sent him on his way! He looked totally confused, since there was no signage stating closing time. Then, another employee cleared dirty dishes from a table, checked the serviette, gave it a shake and put it back on the ‘fresh’ pile for the next customer!! Then this same employee emptied a bag of money onto the counter and began tallying up the days takings. The other lady was busy emptying cabinets and covering muffins in gladwrap, ‘fresh’ for sale the next day? I wouldn’t...

A great place to get a feed outside of normal hours. They open really early, great for if you're up early, or pulling an all nighter. Their food is pretty typical NZ cafe food, the usual selection of pies, sandwiches, slices and bikkies. The menu isn't super expansive, but they've got what most people would be looking for. Don't expect anything fancy, what they do is plain good basic kai, the sorta stuff you'd want at 2am. Good prices and the staff are also super friendly...
