Impressed with Sushil's Musclechef Kitchen & Café's burger Wellington entry and having seen the menu when I was last there, I was keen to try the a la carte. I am a huge fan of breakfast/brunch places that offer dishes that are not the normal Kiwi big breakfast and eggs Benedict, so when we were invited to try out his menu we jumped at the chance! We got 2/3 most popular dishes on his menu, the Kumara stacker and the protein waffles (the wellness bowl is also very popular but I wish I could fit more) I also got the ice mocha with coconut milk, it was just the perfect balance, not sickly sweet and not bitter (which I have noticed a few place both, so we went for half and half, honestly the stacker ia one of the best dishes I have ever had, I can eat this everyday! The Kumara was crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, the cashewnut pesto was OMG, and the juicy mushroom tops it off with a beautiful kick of the roasted capsicum, which is my favourite part of the dish, with the tangy side of the tomato chutney, I kind of resent sharing this 🤣 but then FOMO, had to try the waffles too right? The waffles were a surprise, as my experience is anything that says protein in a dish has a funny taste from the protein powder, but this one did not, it was the perfect balance of flavours, a nice hit of creamy peanut butter accompanied with ice cream (okay I secretly wanted more ice cream, and it's actually an option on the menu if you are not as secret, go all out right?) The cabinet food looks very tantalising as well, but this meal was so filling I could not fit anymore, also to report back, I am writing this 7 hours after eating the meals, and I am only just starting to get hungry, so it was perfect because to me it's really annoying to be hungry 3 hours after having eaten! I love how it's healthy but tastes good, which usually do not go together. Keen to try out other things on the menu! They are very busy in the weekend for brunch and breakfast, so I would recommend booking, but totally worth going out there! Bonus, lots of roadside...
Read moreI have tried majority of the breakfast/lunch menu and have never been disappointed. The wait time isn’t to long compared to most cafes. Friendly staff always happy to help, the owner is super friendly and greets his customers with a smile.
I ordered the following: Fish of the day - Ratatouille with pesto Soup of the day - Asparagus and dill with ciabatta Buttermilk fried chicken tacos (only soft shell) Choctober submission - S’mores flavoured (contains no sugar!!) Apple juice with ice
The fish was amazing paired with the ratatouille and surprisingly the pesto which was something different for me. The soup was my favourite! Did not lack flavour throughout including the ciabatta which had a great amount of garlic (not overpowering). Would definitely order this again. I’ve had alll the tacos but the buttermilk is my favourite and my go too! It’s light & crispy not heavy as some fried chicken can be. Their s’mores Choctober drink is a must try !!! I don’t like dark chocolate but gave it a go, sharing with my mum. Doesn’t taste like artificial flavouring and is quite nice considering it doesn’t have added sugars.
Highly recommend to anyone. But definitely book on weekends as they get busy. 😊 As we’re leaving the owner said goodbye with a big wave. Small things like that make the overall experience better. Thank you for ur good...
Read moreWe’ve always enjoyed the high-quality, convenient daytime meals at Sushil’s Musclechef, but our first evening dining experience was something genuinely special.
The evening service offers a more intimate and refined atmosphere, paired with a thoughtful menu that highlights Sushil’s unique culinary identity—blending cultural heritage and modern flavour in a way that feels deeply personal and original.
We started with the pumpkin soup with coconut, rich and comforting, and the smoked chicken Caesar salad, fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented.
The mains were outstanding: the braised lamb shank was melt-in-your-mouth tender, infused with bold, soulful flavour, while the market fish was perfectly cooked and delicately seasoned.
Dessert was a highlight—the chocolate fondant, with its warm molten centre and vanilla bean ice cream, was pure indulgence.
We ended the night with extra hot oat flat whites, smooth and perfectly made.
While the daytime menu brings quality and convenience, the evening experience feels crafted, personal, and elevated—a reflection of Sushil’s passion for food and hospitality. His presence and care make all the difference.
A special experience worth repeating. We’ll definitely be back. A true local...
