Frognersetteren opened in the 1870s and has been serving world-class food ever since. The restaurant, up high above the city, was built of logs, and filled with great art and trophy animals. If I had to guess what a nordic hunting lodge would be like, this would be it. We both felt Frognersetteren gave us the best meal we had in Norway. I will go so far as to say that Frognersetteren made it into my top ten list for all time favorites. The service was better than any five-star restaurant I have experienced. Because it was so cold, rainy and off-season, there were maybe five tables filled and we were able to talk with the two waiters, basically having a private wait staff. The guys there were well trained with white glove service, detailed knowledge of the menu and the wine list and even arranged a ride home for us when we realized an über would take forever. We enjoyed every dish. This was my first time eating reindeer or grouse. I was never a game eater. The Reindeer tasted sweet and much more complex than beef. The grouse looked like beef but could not be compared to beef or chicken. The cappuccino soup (a frothed creamy soup) was out of this world. They also have a baked goods and book shop. In the shop, one can buy cookbooks and books about the art in Frognersetteren. There are two mobile rated restaurants in Oslo but we both felt we made the right decision coming here. I highly recommend for the atmosphere, the food and the service. Bring your banker. Like everything in Oslo, it will cost you. Our bill with tip and only two glasses of wine came to about $270. ...

Amazing food and the view is incredible. Unfortunately, we did a great deal of waiting around for service tonight. We had a to wait about 20 minutes to order our drinks. I was contemplating just walking out when a different server helped out and asked us our drink order, even though our waiter passed us several times. Then I noticed every table was given a dried cod/fish skin appetizer with their bread, we never received this and it was never offered...even after I asked about it. That would have been nice as we were looking for an authentic Norwegian dining experience. Overall the food was amazing, it’s a shame that our waiter wasn’t all that friendly, helpful or attentive. We’ve been in Norway for two weeks now, tonight is our last night and I can honestly say that this was the poorest of service I received during our entire stay here. It makes me sick that we even left a tip for the server. It would have been nice to have the 5 star experience many others rave about but...
