I’ve been a loyal patron of Woodlands Restaurant for years, going back to their original spot in Ruwi. They recently moved to a new location, and on my recent trip to Muscat, I made sure to visit. True to form, Woodlands didn’t disappoint!
For starters, we ordered the Chilly Chicken, which was packed with flavors—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly spiced with just the right balance of heat and tanginess. One of our friends decided to try their Masala Dosa, which arrived with a generous selection of chutneys, each one bringing a unique kick to the dish.
For the main course, we went for their Beef Fry, also known as Varutha Irachi, paired with fresh, fluffy appams. The beef was exceptionally tender and rich in spices, with a depth of flavor that was truly mind-blowing. The appams were soft and perfectly complemented the robust taste of the beef, making every bite unforgettable.
For dessert, we indulged in a combination of Gulab Jamun and Malai Kulfi—a delightful way to end the meal with its rich, creamy sweetness. The restaurant has done up the new location beautifully, offering a warm and cozy ambiance that makes you feel right at home. The staff were friendly, attentive, and added to the overall enjoyable experience.
The food was so tempting that I returned on the same trip to order the Masala Dosa myself, after seeing my friend’s reaction. It was crispy with a flavorful potato masala inside, and the chutneys just took it to the next level.
Overall, Woodlands remains a gem in Muscat—amazing food, top-notch service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic flavors and a memorable...
Read moreThis was rated very highly in guide books and TripAdvisor. If you approach it from the side as opposed to the main entrance it may look shut. We had a pre-appetizer of poppadoms flavoured with local seeds with a mint side. These are good, solid basic poppadoms. Then we had chill panneer which was almost chinesey in style as it was coated a batter and deep fried. It is not like the chilli paneer you get in India or the UK. We had garlic naan bread which was nice. We had pilau rice you get a lot so could share. Then baby aubergine stew, the waiter said it was going to nice and spicy but it was not which was a shame. We had khalik panner. It was very yummy. They have a full drinks menu and soft drinks. The waiting staff are excellent and very, very attentive. You can pay by card or cash. There is parking. There are steps (6/8) to all doors of all entrances but are handrails but this is not wheelchair accessible. It is wheelchair accessible once inside but... You know. They are great at catering for western taste and Indian taste. They were leseening the spice for an American couple near us and altering a dish specifically for a French party under their request which was very thoughtful. They are good with children as well. It's obviously popular with locals as there were a few people who knew the owners and went regularly. There is parking nearby as well. The streets around...
Read moreNot long ago, they were , one of our most favourite restaurants, a little on the expensive side , but still affordable, a winner of several awards, know ,for its impeccable service & good food. Unfortunately, after moving to MQ, they have become ,A NO GO , for us ,& all of our family & friends, because of their , Exhorbitant rates, & the deterioration of their food quality, which is not worth the prices they charge. Their ONAM sadhya, for the huge amount ,they charged, RO 8-820 inclusive of tax, for a set.. was a total Sham. Except for the Elaborate packaging, The curries & Sambhar were all watery, the banana was just 2inches , that too, over ripe & rotten inside. The drumsticks used ,for the Avial were, the over ripe, hard ones, which nobody uses. There were hardly any dishes ,like earlier years. We were all shocked, to see & taste the SPREAD. Never expected, this ,from a reputed restaurant, & at such a huge cost. LULU's & other restaurants, provided an extremely larger & tastier spread, for a quarter of that amount. Like ,before , non of us , who ,have been, in Oman ,for more than four decades, would ,recommend, this ,restaurant, to anyone. Seriously, they need to introspect and make ,the necessary changes, if ,they need to retain, their, old clients, as ,day by day , the competition is increasing. Options , available, now , in MUSCAT...
