SMOKEKING CHIRIQUI — Restaurant in David

OMG, the food is incredible here ! Fantastic juicy, smoky, tender meats from the smoker that's right in front of the restaurant. The steak from the grill was cooked exactly to the requested temperature. This may seem obvious, yet often times, in other restaurants here, they seem unable to get it right. Great mixed vegetables, well-seasoned and cooked just right, soft yet retaining shape. Also liked the cassava as it was sufficiently blanched before frying, resulting in that crunchy on the outside, soft inside texture that I love about correctly prepared cassava. So much better than fries IMHO. The problem is that often times, they don't (sufficiently) blanch the cassava before frying it, giving it that hard, white powdery texture inside. Not so here. I got the impression that texture is very important to the people who run this restaurant, as evidenced by the perfection displayed on the plate I was given for a moderate price. Taste seemed equally high on their scale as the flavors in the sauces complemented the meat so well as far as the chicken is concerned. Same goes for their sauteed vegetables (chicken stock and oignon and garlic if I tasted that right, maybe some soy).

Friendly and very patient waiter who helped us choose our food, enthusiastic young waitress who brought a homemade drink (and the very moderate check). Couldn't fault them if I tried. Even the AC was great, none of that super cold air blown into your neck or onto your food. Parked right in front of the door. It was perfect...

This restaurant is a horrible place to eat. My order took forever to make it to our table. At 2 pm the order was taken. After 45 minutes of waiting for my food, the server came to tell me they ran out of the beef steak that I ordered and offered another choice, which I accepted and another 30 more minutes waiting for my other steak to make it to my table. The total waiting time, was about one hour and 20 minutes. No apologies, no nothing and the food was MEDIOCRE. The steak was not cooked to the requested temperature. Too red for my taste. Insufficient staff for the number of customers. The worst, OVERPRICED food I've had yet in this country, with not a friendly staff and non-attentive as well. Never came to ask us if things were ok. What a rip-off this place is. Do not waste your time and money. There are a gazillion restaurants out there that are much better than this one. I DO NOT RECOMMEND...

Great place for comfort food. Burgers, wings and smoked meat, well prepared amd nicely presented. Easily located on the main highway with white Christmas lights outside and an outdoor smoking grill for the meat. The place is very clean and has a good ambience; the only slight downside is the outdoor seating due to being right on the main highway, nothing much to do about it.
