Our favorite restaurant in the valley and we ate at many top-rated restaurants. Why is it a five star? It’s all about the care, passion and commitment. The high-quality food, the beautiful presentation, the breathtaking view of a snow-capped mountain, the professional welcoming service, and the overall cleanliness. This husband and wife team along with their staff offer a wonderful dining experience. The food is sourced locally - Hen, Beef, Vegetables and herbs. Antonio, the chef, who has many years of culinary training. He spent time explaining the dishes and the ingredients he uses.
We had the Lomo Saltado, which was unlike any we had before. The meat was tender, flavorful and cooked to order. The trout was exceptional, fresh and flaky. The hen crusted in a medley of different quinoas was tender and juicy with a wonderful crunch. The salads and soups rank up with the best restaurants we have visited.
Each dish is magnificently presented and comes with additional sides such as fruits, vegetables, potatoes, and herbs. The sauces are made with crème, purees and broths; all natural and seasoned lightly to slightly enhance the natural flavors.
La Portada also offers natural drinks. They actually picked the herbs used in our lemonade from the tree right outside the in restaurants garden.
I recommend going for a late lunch to avoid the rush. We went at 2:00 pm and had the place to ourselves and the next time at 12:30 and the place was super busy, but still enjoyable. I am not sure if there dinner hours, but in the afternoon you get the best view of the mountains. I highly recommend visiting Antonio and Maria at La...

After a long hike from Moray, we arrived at La Portada Restaurante and it was the perfect way to end our day! The place is beautifully decorated, super clean, and welcoming. Even the bathrooms were spotless which I really appreciate as a mom traveling with kids.
My husband and I both ordered lomo saltado perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. My daughter had grilled chicken with rice (pollo a la plancha and requested arroz), and my son had rigatoni with red sauce (rigatoni en salsa roja) he finished every bite! We all enjoyed the refreshing and delicious chicha morada.
We were warmly welcomed with a complimentary appetizer of oca and mashua, and the staff took the time to explain these Andean ingredients to us. A cozy soup was also included with the meal like a warm hug after the hike.
While we waited for our food, we watched the kitchen staff picking fresh herbs right from the garden everything felt so fresh and made with love. At the end of the meal, the chef came to greet us, shared the story behind the restaurant and their ingredients, and even gifted us a little bag of Maras salt. It was the cherry on top of a perfect visit.
Honestly, even without the salt gift, we already loved the place. From the food to the atmosphere to the genuine care we’d come back in...
Read moreIf you have found this restaurant, you’ve found a hidden gem! I’ve been traveling through Peru for over a week and La Portada Restaurante is the best restaurant I’ve been to, and not just in Peru. Antonio (the chef) is highly talented and put his heart and soul into his food. The quality of the food he provides is out of this world. For the first time, I felt the food can move people. I went to this restaurant twice to appreciate the various dishes and see him and Maria. My husband and I had ensalada resca, sopa creamoso de trigo as appitizer and as a main menu, Trucha a la Plancha, Lomo Saltato, Pollo Crujientr con quinua, chaufa de quinua (non-vegetarian version). The way the food was prepared (absolutely pristine), the way it was presented (an art form), the way it tasted (heavenly! every time!) My husband said he would ask all the people he knows to go and try Antonio’s food. The kindness from him and Maria; from the moment we stepped into the courtyard they just wanted us to be their family. I think Maras should be proud of having them...
