We showed up without reservation and were kindly welcomed not without being first informed of some noisy renovation works ongoing till late at night, in the resort around different areas, but we didn't mind it (and the work, at that time, was anyway quite distant from the dining area)
The location is really nice and, despite lots of work happening around, you can tell it will be even more beautiful sooner than later.
The food was delicious - Both the grilled mullet and BBQ filled squid were fresh and cooked perfectly, just as we requested, and also served with enough side dishes. Mullet had a choice of rice or french fries + Stir fried veggies or salad while the Squid filled with veggies included a choice of rice or french fries.
Overall the staff was extremely kind and attentive and if it wasn't for the waiter who took our order, we would have ranked The Old Plantation 5 stars!
What happened? Well, the unfortunate waiter showed some language barrier and poor customer service:
We enquired about wine and were told they only had house wine, served by the glass or carafe - We asked to try it first and were denied such option (never happened before in any other restaurant around the world!), so we didn't' feel comfortable ordering it without trying it first so we skipped it.
Then, going through the food menu, since some listed fish dishes only stated "Market price", we asked about the actual price per kg for their serving and we were told it was 550php per kg. We had to ask twice because it sounded too cheap for a restaurant price and were repeated the same amount, but when we received the bill our suspects were confirmed - the price was actually higher than that, in fact it was approximately 1500php per kg (still a fair price given the quality!)
While I'm sure that with some more appropriate training the gap could be quickly filled, I still strongly recommend The Old Plantation as it was amongst the best meals we had in Bohol over a week of dinners...
Read moreThe road at night going to the place is a bit daunting. Would honestly rather go here during the day for a first timer.
There’s a guard by the gate. He asked if we have a reservation, and we didn’t. Luckily, they had available tables and we were let in. So if you are planning to dine here, reservation is highly recommended.
We were greeted by lovely staff. They speak strictly english whether you’re a foreigner or a local, which I think is a good practice. The staff are very well trained.
They have a good selection in the menu. A mix of European and Asian cusine. Me and my partner ordered their pasta. I had garlic prawn and he had seafood pasta. They were pretty decent, not the best. Good serving size and they do give extra salt for you to adjust to your taste preference. Their shakes were okay, we had better ones, but we appreciate the fruit garnish on the glass. It is on the pricier side, but I feel like the price is for both the food and the ambience. It can be a romantic place, perfect for date night.
Overall, I am not sure if I will come back. Maybe if I try their other dish I might like it better. However, I still suggest this place just to...
Read moreTruly disappointing. We thought it would be a really nice dinner given other reviews, but it has been so bad for us. First, we arrived at the main gate, 20:10h, and the guard said that there’s only bar because last order is 20:30h. We pushed back as it was 20:10h and then he let us pass. Then, we tried to order a cheese platter and it wasn’t available. We decided to go with garlic rice and it tasted way too much like butter. We also ordered vegetarian burritos, which were almost impossible to eat as they were super spicy. Finally, we ask for more water and they did not bring it, ignoring us for more than 20 minutes. Then, without being asked about desserts, we decided to go to the counter, pay and leave. Honestly, such a bad experience from the beginning until the end. We think we were unlucky as other reviews are so good, but we just felt ignored and treated differently for not being...
