We had been looking forward to eating at Papi’s. Before we left home I told my wife that all I needed was a good breakfast & it would make my day awesome. Well, I hate not giving a 5 star review but my day was not awesome. I want Papi’s & Drakes to succeed. I’m rooting for both. I had planned to ask about a nice room there for a get-away upcoming weekend staycation with my wife. Instead we just smiled, left a tip and quietly walked out. Maybe it wasn’t a good day to go there? It happens. But I cannot see us going back. First impressions are important- we felt awkward & uncomfortable from the moment we were seated. I still don’t want to say anything negative, so I will give some suggestions. I want to be as kind as possible, but without ignoring this morning. If there are only a handful of patrons, when a couple comes in, allow them to have some choice in seating. Don’t try to make them sit at a specific table when so many are open. There was a couple seated at a table and they left as we were seated. The waitress still would not let us sit there. Other open tables? No. If this was not Papi’s we would have walked out then. I understand Filipino & my wife is Filipina. It should not be difficult to initially order coffee. If you offer bottomless coffee, offer more or give us more if I ask for coffee for both of us if we paid for it. Items should be explained as to what comes with a meal and doesn’t. Toast? Home fries? The menu doesn’t say what comes with a meal. The waitress should know. Work on customer service. We felt like we were bothering staff. You shouldn’t ask us three different times if we want butter with our toast. Who doesn’t want butter with toast? And especially since I was clueless that my meal even included toast. And when the butter comes out, please make sure it’s real butter and give more than just a 1/2 teaspoon of the (my wife called it) “Filipino butter” and she laughed after tasting it. I ordered sausage gravy and biscuits with my omelette because I thought I wasn’t getting any toast or anything else- just the omelette. The biscuits seemed dense, uncooked inside. Neither myself nor my wife are picky eaters. I asked her to taste a biscuit with no warning. She spit it out. Not cooked, she said. I’ve ordered biscuits and gravy for most of my life. I’ve eaten it at many places here in this area. Todays gravy tasted off. Sour? I am afraid to sound racist but it didn’t taste like American sausage gravy. Instead it tasted like what I would imagine a Filipino sausage gravy might taste like. My wife would not try it. She order a skillet. She liked the fried eggs on top. She didn’t like the rest of the skillet. I enjoyed my omelette. It was good. But the toast after being buttered with…? and the gravy and biscuits were left behind. Maybe considered adding some potatoes with the omelette? Or at least tell us what comes or doesn’t come with a meal? I would have ordered some potatoes had I known. There seemed to be two other customers who were unhappy with their order. Everyone heard the one guy complain that he specifically said he did NOT want his order heated in a microwave. We all heard him- something about wanting to put it straight in a freezer. The server and the manager appeared to listen but offered no remedy. He left upset. Eventually we just smiled, left a tip and left too. I cannot see us coming back. Maybe we should have came for your burgers? I have had many people suggest I try Papi’s so I am left thinking it must have been an off morning. I wasn’t loud nor very vocal but I did express that I was not ok with the meal. I felt no need to push anything. Maybe it was just a bad morning? I actually feel bad about leaving this review. But so many people I know suggested if I was going to post it, just don’t do it on Facebook. You have many loyal customers and that says a lot. Anyway, sorry for this review. Had there been a mouse in my omelette or if hot coffee was spilled on us, we certainly would have been more vocal. Our meals & the service simply were...
Read moreI offer a 1 star review because this restaurant is in active collusion, running a scam with Food Panda. Their staff has disclosed this to me in writing. The scam is part of their contract with Food Panda. (God bless employees who have not been trained to lie.) Here is how the scam plays out. Food Panda is allowed to inflate food prices by up to 25% to disguise their delivery charges. Please see the below pics for proof. None of this scam is disclosed to their Food Panda customers.
Update 3 months later: It gets better. I have previously documented the ongoing Food Panda fraud. Still, the food is pretty good. In particular the filet mignon. Yesterday I took my son out to dinner there. I ordered the filet, specifically requesting that it be butterflied. When it arrived, it was not butterflied. But that is not my issue. Turns out there was a damn good reason it was not butterflied. The portion size had been cut in half - at the same price. I sent it back and took everything else to go. And so ended my final visit to Papi's. Avoid.
Update in response to owner's query - I couldn't find any way to reply other than by editing my comment. Background - I'm a total capitalist. I run loads of units in this town and believe vendors can charge any price they like for their goods and services. So my issue is NOT Food Panda charging for delivery. My problem here is contractual fraud. You signed a contract with Food Panda which authorizes them to fraudulently disguise their actual delivery charges using inflated (+25%) food costs. Of course, the mark is not informed of this variation on 3-card-monte. The ethical alternative to this scam - Disclose the actual delivery charge as a delivery charge, which it is. You have confirmed this in your response. You only receive your actual menu price. You are complicit in a fraud. Let me know if I can provide any further...
Read moreFood WAS fabulous..Best Rib eye steak in AC...not any more!
This is at the Drake Hotel Location
Add: Went back a few days ago. So sad, you went from best steak to worst steak in AC.
Your new cook or Chef needs to learn how to cook, not just for flavor and taste, but also for food safety.
Cooking a rare steak doesn't mean you put it on a flat top for 2 minutes...you served me a steak that looked and tasted like it was blanched in hot water.
Teach these guys how to heat up a pan and sear the steak. I sent the steak back to reheat and cook a bit more, it's like they put the steak on a cold flat top or cold pan and then turned the heat on. It was pathetic.
If I wasn't so Hungry already, I would have not touched it. It was my friends birthday and I talked up the place alot, because it used to be so good. I was so embarrassed and shamed. Felt like a complete moron.
We ordered alot of food and the tacos were horrible. The Chicken tenders were sub par. We didn't eat much of anything, except me, I probably should not have ate that horrendous steak, cause I got very bad stomach ache and diarrhea next 2 days...I should have known better, but was too embarrassed with my friends there to complain much.
So disappointed. Won't recommend or ever eat at Papis again unless you learn how cook proper food.
