Read moreKainan sa Balsa is easily found using Google Maps since it is along the highway. There was enough open parking space and the security guard welcomed guests with his umbrella, which was kind enough.
The place itself has a counter where you can see 'half' cooked meals and a board where pictures of dishes and names of dishes. Take note: prices were not displayed or written.
Upon entering, on the right side there are tables if guests do not want to eat by the raft.
As you enter the "raft huts'' you'll see small huts that can accommodate 7 to 10 persons. The biggest hut is in the middle that can accommodate 50 persons. I could say the entire place can accommodate 200 to 250 people comfortably. Unless they try 300..which is very uncomfortable.
Service was fast. (Not so many customers that time) there were other customers in 5 small huts. By the way, even though we were just two people we ate at the biggest hut using the longest table.
Food was tasty. The servings were enough for 3-5 persons.
The water from the lake / or "pond" is greenish yellowish since it's not flowing water. Not a good scent though. Luckily when we visited, it was windy so it wasn't that strong of an awful smell.
When taking the bill, we were surprised with the total amount. Anyhow we just considered the recent price increase of commodities and like I mentioned, we didn't know the prices of the dishes so be ready for...

We ordered spicy gambas (which was not spicy), sizzling salmon belly (fried in butter and served in sizzling plate), a stick of chicken kebab which tasted like ordinary pinoy sweet style barbecue, avocado shake (and was thick which I liked) and 2 saba con yelo (the sweetened banana tasted weird and had food coloring). It costed us around Php 750.
Ordering food has to be done at the entrance. Some of the food are displayed at the counter (karinderya style). Then you can proceed to your hut. After eating, you’ll have to go to the cashier to pay. The old lady in the cashier was very rude. We were politely making some clarifications because we can’t read the hand writing and she just said, “basahin nyo jan” in a rude tone. When another customer approached, she did the same.
Best to eat during the morning or late afternoon because it can get really hot. The raft doesn’t give you the floating-in-the-water feeling because it actually has bamboo posts, as its base, which are well-planted on the soil.
Water was murky. Wasn’t able to ask if you can try fishing.
If you’re in the area with a foreigner or balikbayan, it may be good to try just for once. But not worth the trip if you’re from...
